Having a Beautiful Weekend, Belo Style!

The couple passionate about beauty : Dr. Hayden Kho and Dr. Vicki Belo

It was a different experience for me last weekend, for instead of going out with my girlfriends, grabbing dinner or watching a movie, I attended an event for Beautynomics. Of course, how could I pass up when the Belo Medical Group asks you to attend their event? In half a heartbeat, it was a yes!

There’s too much to tell because I believe I had a total blast during this event, but let me break this down :

A Beauty Chat With Rovilson Fernandez

wee!

I was called to do makeup for a shoot today, thanks to my very supportive mentor RB Chanco. I had the absolute shock of my life when I entered the dressing room and met the person whom I am doing makeup for - it’s Rovilson Fernandez!

Rovilson Fernandez is one host that I feel will never run out of words because of his very spontaneous nature. I’ve watched him host Ang Pinaka on QTV, and me and my friends have been rooting for him and Marc Nelson to win during their adventure in Amazing Race, Asia. ( and just now, I just knew that guy friends know him because he’s EIC for Maxim? haha! ) Needless to say, I tried to keep my calm and do my job efficiently. For men’s makeup, it was more on bronzers and contouring, and I enjoyed this shoot despite the heat!

My Crash Course in Chemical Peels/Peeling Treatments

Last Thursday, right before snagging those babies at Shopwise, I went on a south roadtrip to Festival Mall to undergo my second skin peeling session at the Ageless Center, care of Dr. Socouer Oblepias, who had intensive training in the line of chemical peels and treatments in San Francisco, USA.

Now, I was told by my dermatologist when I was in college, that the only solution to my acne scars were chemical peeling ( I’m guessing, should be TCA ), and I was told that it would hurt, feel itchy, and I would look very sunburned right after the peeling session. Downtime. Ack. She also gave me a scenario that she would be using a fan to cool my face from the stinging sensation expected. I never went back because I got scared of the downtime and the pain.

Fastforward, two weeks ago, I had my first peeling session, right after a facial from my dermatologist. It was called gel peel that promised to slowly get rid of acne. It stang a bit, and well, I saw flaking. My skin was a bit brown afterwards. I’ve also done diamond peels before, but well, last Thursday was a new experience, still!

Super fastforward, back to my peeling session last Thursday, I was most curious on what difference progressive peels would make. I was told that the peels that would be performed on me , which was Sensi Peel and Esthetique Peel have very very minimal, to no downtime. I was most curious about this. My skin is acne prone, have really problematic open pores, and have some acne scars, so being out without makeup was really not a comfortable thing for me to do, but hey, one has to brave the wild to be able to get results. I would want to get good skin one day that I won’t need to wear makeup.

A Chat With Top Dermatologist, PCA Skin’s Dr. Jennifer Linder

Dr. Linder and me!

It isn’t everyday that I get the chance to meet and greet one of the top dermatologists in the U.S., as well as an expert in her field. Take a look at my lunchmate’s credentials,

Jennifer Linder, M.D., is a board-certified dermatologist, a fellowship-trained Mohs and laser surgeon and one of the foremost U.S. experts in the use of the cosmetic filler Sculptra. Dr. Linder completed medical school and fellowship training at Washington University in St. Louis, a surgery internship at the University of Pennsylvania, and a dermatology residency at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia.

A biomedical engineer and chemist, Dr. Linder holds a clinical faculty position in the Department of Dermatology at the University of California, San Francisco, instructing other dermatologists in skin cancer surgery and the use of cosmetic injectibles. Dr. Linder is Chief Scientist for PCA SKIN, an industry leader since 1990 in the development of professional chemical peels and advanced topicals that aid in the treatment of acne, eczema, psoriasis, hyperpigmentation, rosacea, and aging skin. Dr. Linder guides all product development and clinical trials for PCA SKIN and is currently in private practice in Scottsdale, Arizona, specializing in dermatology and Mohs skin cancer surgery.

Given that, the Swiper and I rushed to meet and get to have a chat with Dr. Jennifer Linder, courtesy of PCA Skin, which is going to be launched in the Philippines tomorrow, to be available exclusively at your local dermatologist’s office. Boy, we learned alot from Dr. Linder as I could not quite explain - technical words glided effortlessly from her as if it was her everyday language ( and indeed it is! ), but I felt like we were educated about acne like teenagers, the way she talked, despite a mixture of jargon, seemed so easy to be understood ( I gotta give it to her! )

Of course, we all share what we learn, and I hope it would answer some skin care questions and concerns, out there!

Aveeno Active Naturals Continuous Sunblock Spray with SPF 45

A traveler’s must have in his/her every journey must be the sunblock, specially when the destination is in a tropical country. Remember, prevention is better than cure and skin cancer is not as easy as peeling off a layer from your skin via exfoliation. I can also honestly comment that sunblocks are a bit too icky for my skin, because even with lotions, I don’t feel comfortable applying it on my skin.

So when I was packing, I included the Aveeno Active Naturals Continuous Sunblock Spray with me. I was thinking, well, it’s a spray, it wouldn’t feel as icky as its cream counterparts. I crossed my fingers and wished that it would fare well on me.

Keeping Oneself Beautiful While Traveling is a TOP Priority, Part 1

Hi everyone!

In a few hours, I’m off for a plane to Singapore to celebrate Tin’s birthday. Yes, I’d be traveling with the pretty sisters Tin and Diana to the sunny city of Singapore! They said the heat’s insane there so I’ve got my trusty deodorant with me and my nice shorts that is considered alright to be worn there ( whoopee! ) Anyway, for my vanity kit, I’ve been known to be a really, really heavy packer, and well, let me just share to you what I’m bringing for my trip! Take a peek, take a peek!

Beauty Products Are a Makeup Girl’s Best Friend!

Aside from the friendships that formed that I can never be thankful of during makeup class, I’d like to take time to also thank my special friends for helping me survive my grueling finals :

SkinHour Mattifying Day Cream - I used this skin care on all my models and the first thing they’d say is, “ambango a! ano to?” ( how fragrant! what is this? ). Very organic, all natural, and moisturizing, fit for all skin types.
