Starting The New Year Right With My New SOS Beauty Kit!

Ahhhh. The New Year brings about so much promises. Fresh beginnings. Promises of a better you. I think we’ve all used up the last few days of 2012 to reflect, and see how we can do better the following year. Agree?

I’ve always been a big believer of beauty kits. I do, actually have two of them inside my bag sometimes! I feel that really unprepared for battle sort of vibe whenever I fail to bring my beauty kit, as I always want to look my best whenever I go out for work or for play. It’s important to feel secure, knowing that you have backup products with you whenever you go!

Let me share with you the lovely, thoughtful gift that Closeup has sent me last December. This is a set that has been carefully picked by the best beauty editors in the country. Knowing that we beauty-loving girls already have our must-haves in our own beauty kit, these are some of the things that are pleasant add-ons just in case of beauty emergencies :

MAC Cosmetics Glamour Daze Launch : Because It’s The Holidays!

IMG_2793

This must be MAC Cosmetics’ grandest launch, and when they called in their special guests, everyone said yes in a heartbeat, because for one, MAC Cosmetics is a celebrity favorite, being the best bet in TV/movie makeup, and even moreso, a media favorite with having really interesting collections and collaborations! MAC Cosmetics is such a well-loved makeup brand that it deserved all the limelight it had that night!

I heart my MAC lipsticks ( too many shades to mention. Haha! ), MAC blushes, lipglasses, eyeshadows, and almost everything they have, so I was definitely present that night to support!

Stepping inside the event was like stepping into another world. Girls in retro costumes and makeup – designed by that of the same designer as Lady Gaga’s, they definitely made statements.

Beautynomics Review : Face of Australia Blush in Primrose

Guess where I’ve been a few weeks ago…

It has probably got to be the most beautiful country I’ve been to, so far. Well, equally with Canada.

Guess, guess guess? Okay, it’s too obvious by my subject! Yes, I went to Australia a few weeks ago for a vacation, and life has never been the same. You can just hear me babble endlessly about my great finds there, but the greatest find would have to be the beautiful sceneries of the ocean-side, and countryside in Melbourne!

Anyway, since I was going there, I thought that it would be fun to bring along my Face of Australia Blush in Primrose, as it is such a versatile shade of rose pink, that I can pair with almost any lip color! Continue reading

A Fun Afternoon Doing Makeup The Shiseido Way

A few weeks ago, I had so much fun at Shiseido’s event that was for beauty bloggers, and members of the press. At the Ampitheatre of Greenbelt 5, the guest of honor was no other than the Regional Training Manager for Asia, Ms. Angela Boh. She was there to teach us makeup tips and tricks!

Classroom style!

I’m ready for this! We also have materials!

_MG_1229

Angela Boh did a makeup demo on applying makeup, the Shiseido way. What I learned from this demo, was that you need to layer foundation little by little if you want more coverage, and not slap a thick pack of it in an instant just because you need alot of coverage. She was also able to use the famed Shiseido Perfect Foundation Brush, an angled flat top brush, to apply almost everything, from liquid foundation, to applying powder foundation, and even blush on! The key is control on your hands. Apply with even, medium strokes for liquid products, and apply feather-light for powder products, and blend well. I also got a trick that for fuller, and a beautiful mascara application, while the mascara wand is on the base of the eyelashes, let it stay there for 5 seconds or so, to make the base darker, and make the eyes more well-defined. Japanese makeup is really different from Western makeup, as the key is really a flawless canvass ( the face ), and the features would merely be well-defined in the most subtle, natural manner. Don’t be fooled by the word “subtle,” as there are alot of tricks to bring out one’s features naturally!

Guerlain Fall 2012 Collection

natalia

An exquisitely feminine collection dedicated to the pleasure and sensuality of colours. Like a seductive angel, Natalia sparks the imagination with carnal, reddish accents.

Tawny eyes against a red mouth. A “G” for pure Lust. She gazes upon her reflection and recognizes herself while she invents a n ew identity. Right in front of her beautiful mirror. So, who is the fairest of them all ? This new Fall 2012 collection overflows with colours: reds, of course, but also pinks. A story of many facets of femininity, by Guerlain.

Oh my goodness. What a beautiful collection by Guerlain this Fall 2012! How could they have guessed one of my favorite color combinations – pink and red! I deem it very feminine and very sophisticated at the same time. It’s the color for the ladies. Although I am not crazy about reds, I am getting swoony with this collection! The collection is a fusion of two color universes with orange red, and pink nude tones, which are in essence, very “Guerlain,”. Creative Director Olivier Echaudemaison has this to say about the Fall 2012 collection :

Bobbi Brown Desert Twilight Collection

DESERT_TWILIGHT___MODEL_SHOT

“Sun-swept nudes and pinks evoke a beautiful late summer glow.” – Bobbi Brown

Bobbi’s new Desert Twilight Collection combines soft hues with bright color. Offering a pop of Southwestern inspired turquoise against a backdrop of sun-swept rose, plum and bronze shades; the collection is playful yet wearable.

There’s something about the sun that evokes such an alluring, and sexy vibe into it. It is definitely even more beautiful, with the sun, joining with the gorgeous desert as the background. I’m thinking “earthen glow.” Reminds me of sunkissed beauty. I love such natural, sunkissed, healthy glow! That is probably why Bobbi Brown’s Desert Twilight Collection is poised to be one of the bestselling collections of the year – that I had to fight my way for a reservation for something in this collection! ( and I encourage you to be on the lookout yourself, as my source says they will sell out fast! )

Here are the products included in the Bobbi Brown Desert Twilight Collection :

Shu Uemura Autumn Winter 2012 Collection : Chocolat Donna

IMG_1706

word, to chocolate lovers. :)

I’d be totally honest with you that I’m not really a big lover of chocolates. I do like them though! Haha I have my chosen favorites ( Royce and Crunch, primarily ) , but I do have friends who have this ultimate, sky-high love for chocolates that I see their eyes sparkle with the mention of it. They live for it, and it is such indulgence for them.

chocolate as a milestone of your life.

a piece of chocolate evokes your most precious moments,
bittersweet memories of fist love, of joyful celebrations…

close your eyes, savor the flavors of life,
evoke the next chapter of an exciting journey that you have never tasted before.

Take a look at this saying. I think people who love chocolates can even resort to poetry! Such sweetness!

BUT if you translate chocolates into makeup, NOW we’re talking. I do, I do, I do love chocolate shades!!!!

Just last week, I braved the rain to attend Shu Uemura’s Chocolat Donna launch. I was able to bring with me a good friend, Jacqe, who was a big, big chocolate lover. She was just so happy that night!

Beautynomics Review : Bobbi Brown Shimmer Brick in Rose Gold

bobbi_brown_rose_gold_4

Do you remember Sarabeth, my pretty sister whom I featured for her two proms here in my blog? Did you know that she just turned 18? Sigh, how time flies and the little baby that I used to play around with and make fun of sometimes ( woops, sorry Sarabethy Spaghetti! ) has now blossomed into a beautiful young lady. She’s now of legal age, and I really, really feel old!

Now, with Sarabeth’s 18th birthday party, I really, really felt the need to feel young, and moreso, look young, so what product did I turn to to make sure I achieve that effect?

I needed some glow on my face. Ok, found it. It was just timely that Bobbi Brown released her Spring 2012 collection this March, named the Rose Gold Collection. Amongst the beautiful products showcased in her collection included the Bobbi Brown Rose Gold Shimmer brick, and I shall tell you why it made my night.

What is a Shimmer Brick?

A Shimmer Brick is a creation by Bobbi Brown, when she was doing makeup for fashion week. She was told to create that “lit from within glow,” and as she was put on the spot, she whipped up a shimmery eyeshadow and used it as a highlighter on the model. It was with that idea that Bobbi Brown eventually got to create shimmerbricks. For me, a shimmerbrick would be a compact full of shimmery colors of various shades that can be really versatile and multi-purpose. It can be your eyeshadow, blush ( depending on the color ) and even highlighter. Ultimately, it gives the effect of that “lit from within” glow that is just so gorgeous. So gorgeous that one shimmerbrick is shipped every 7.5 minutes, making it one of Bobbi Brown’s bestselling products.

Checking out Bobbi Brown’s Shimmer Brick in Rose Gold, it is definitely filled with metallic hues of rose, and two shades of neutral colors such as beige and brown. Further dissecting it, let me share with you how I find each shade :
