my kitty playmate for the day, Phoebe

Dealgrocer has been running great deals lately, and one of the nice deals that you can actually score there are makeup classes by the Shu Uemura Learning Atelier located at the Powerplant Mall. Phoebe and I teamed up for a fun Saturday to play with makeup and learn a few tricks here and there!

The description of the class says:

Makeup School, and Makeup Artist Escapades : School’s Done, Done, Done!

Roughly a year ago, going to makeup school abroad was just a dream – a fun thought that I could go away the next year to give myself a break from being burned out from work, and hone my skills, even more. I just can’t believe that I’m here, this moment, where everything comes to an end. I have actually braved going to Singapore to study Advanced Bridal Makeup, and Airbrush Makeup, and finished it!

Mind you, it wasn’t easy. There were times when I just wanted to give up and thought that I wasn’t good enough. There were also moments when I seriously doubted if I could really do this. There were moments of heartbreak as well. But then, with the support and love of my classmates, and very good friends ( from highschool, and college who happen to be living in Singapore, quite a big group, actually ), I managed to lift myself up, be more determined, and persevere until I was able to improve, and hone my craft pretty well. Evaluating myself right now, I think I’m actually proud of what I’ve accomplished, I learned so much, and my hard work paid off. I’m definitely still a work in progress, but I know I’m going somewhere.

Here are some pictures of our last day in school, wherein we had our practical exams. My eyes were pretty bloodshot that day because I didn’t get enough sleep ( got really jittery ), my hair was horrible ( someone needs a rebonding sesh soon! ) but I’m just so proud of reaching this last leg that I can’t not afford not to post them!

Makeup Artist Escapades : Miss Earth Singapore Stint

Last Saturday, I was a happy makeup artist as I was reunited with my buddies in makeup school, in Chinatown Point for one of the mall shows of the Miss Earth Singapore Beauty Pageant. It was one busy morning, as usually, shows like this require speed and precision. I’m not the best person when it comes to speed since I love taking my time, and perfecting everything, but I was challenged that day!

A Crash Course in Color Correcting

…that’s four c’s in my title. I’m so proud ! Haha!

Kidding aside, color correcting is one of the most important things to do while doing makeup. It’s a part of applying the base, and considered as “sub-foundations” already because they are applied under or over foundation to correct problem colors or areas of the skin. Our skin, while being perfect at the time of birth, are always exposed, and harassed by our environment, the stress that we bring onto ourselves, and sometimes, poor diet.

Here’s my new color correcting palette from Make Up For Ever, and I just love it for it is really really handy, and useful. I shall tell you why!

Makeup Is My Passion.

Some of my dear readers might have noticed my lack of updates in this blog, and I am happy to say that we’ll definitely be back to regular programming pretty soon, sooner than you can imagine. In a span of almost half a year in my blissful exile in Singapore, I am almost going home. I am getting melodramatic as of the moment because I have learned to love this beautiful country, and of course, the beautiful people as well.

Getting myself out of the country as a way to cope my quarter life crisis, attending makeup school was a huge step for me, as well as a serious decision to get off work, leave ( though, temporarily ) my family and friends to pursue this passion. I am quite fortunate that I consider this a break of some sort from me getting burned out from work, but a quite productive break as I am given a chance to learn something that I truly love, with all my heart.

Let me share to you a few things that I’ve learned in makeup school

My Makeup Artist Portfolio

Sorry for the temporary hiatus, ladies, my server’s memory has gone full and I had it fixed by my host. Okay, back to beauty blogging!

I’ve put up a temporary site for my makeup works, and I’m slowly building my portfolio. I hope you’d add me up at Multiply! Yesterday, I did makeup for my sister’s photoshoot, and here are some photos :

A Beauty Chat With Rovilson Fernandez

wee!

I was called to do makeup for a shoot today, thanks to my very supportive mentor RB Chanco. I had the absolute shock of my life when I entered the dressing room and met the person whom I am doing makeup for – it’s Rovilson Fernandez!

Rovilson Fernandez is one host that I feel will never run out of words because of his very spontaneous nature. I’ve watched him host Ang Pinaka on QTV, and me and my friends have been rooting for him and Marc Nelson to win during their adventure in Amazing Race, Asia. ( and just now, I just knew that guy friends know him because he’s EIC for Maxim? haha! ) Needless to say, I tried to keep my calm and do my job efficiently. For men’s makeup, it was more on bronzers and contouring, and I enjoyed this shoot despite the heat!

Beauty Products Are a Makeup Girl’s Best Friend!

Aside from the friendships that formed that I can never be thankful of during makeup class, I’d like to take time to also thank my special friends for helping me survive my grueling finals :

SkinHour Mattifying Day Cream – I used this skin care on all my models and the first thing they’d say is, “ambango a! ano to?” ( how fragrant! what is this? ). Very organic, all natural, and moisturizing, fit for all skin types.

Makeup School Escapades : Zee Final Exam

A photoshoot. Yep, that is our final exam! Well, ready for my story?

Here goes :

A day before the final exam, Jheng and I met up. According to her, I looked so relaxed and ready for the exam while she was on the brink of a breakdown. So untrue. That was what I was trying to battle – stress. I was trying to tell myself that everything will be okay, but deep inside, I was at my most nervous state that I could faint any moment! Yes, now you know how nerviosa I am! I have failure as one of my greatest fears, but I know that if I get all tensed and keep on getting really nervous, I might not be able to function the next day. So I tried to condition myself.

After shopping for last minute supplies and accessories for our themes, we bid each other goodbye, and wished each other good luck for our finals day. As I got home, I hurriedly packed all my stuff for our big day. Gosh, I even dreamed that I woke up and I could not remember anything! ( Goodness gracious, I think I’m losing it ).

Anyway, as I woke up to my dreaded day, a very good friend of mine was nice enough to drive me to school, and my sister was kind enough to accompany me to take photos. The day started with our teacher RB Chanco breezing in a very dazzling black dress, and started doing a final demo on color-themed makeup. She transformed Les from a doll-looking gal into a Brazilian bombshell!

News Flash : Your Beauty Bloggers Still Very Much Alive

* Even Touche Eclat failed to hide my stress. Dang.

If you’re wondering why Phoebe, Jheng, and I have been quiet lately, well things have been really really toxic lately. Phoebe’s started a new adventure ( watch out for her post! ) and Jheng and I have been fretting about our final exam in makeup school : a photoshoot.
