Makeup Artist Escapades : Graduation Ball and Graduation Makeup

IMG_0129

Sarabeth, all grown up

Last month, March, was the most busy month for me. Why? Because two little girls hired me to be on call, and do their makeup for their parties, and graduation! Hahaha!

Sarabeth was about to graduate high school, and this March, she was having twice-a-week birthday parties and debuts. I was actually wondering how come alot of her classmates were celebrating their 18th birthday parties this March, and well, that includes Sarabeth. Sarabeth just told me that it seems that most girls in her class were March babies! I did her makeup for every party, but maybe the most memorable one that I’d share with you, aside from her 18th birthday party makeup, was her makeup for the Graduation Ball.

For her Graduation Ball, I did some grown-up smoky eyed makeup on her. I figured that she already had enough of fresh, cute makeup looks, I wanted to experiment on some a little bit grown up makeup on her. I did makeup for her, and her friend Paulene. The picture above is Sarabeth’s Grad Ball getup. She’s wearing a Coexist dress, which is mine, by the way, but since I kept it inside my closet and never got around to wearing it, she came first because she crammed me for an outfit three days before the ball! Haha! I am totally liking her pink heels from Call It Spring!

Beautynomics Prom Special : Sarabeth, My Prom Princess

glam

They say we look alike.

and that, is probably why I am so hands-on with her with her prom preparations, it’s like me going to the prom over and over again! Last year was quite an experience for us ( I describe it as exciting, exhilarating, and refreshing ), and as this is Sarabeth’s last year in High School, and she is attending the Junior-Senior Prom again, hello??? Sister Sophie is on top of all things!

prom6

Here’s Sarabeth bare-faced, squeaky clean of anything. Sigh, I miss that kind of youth wherein you can just wear your face like that, look really cute, and just be happy! Well, what’s my idea for her look?

Anything but ordinary. Reason? Because it’s what she is. Extraordinary. I am in fact so proud of her that she has self-studied herself into excellence maintaining good grades, and being on the swim team. I sometimes feel so bad for her that she stays late at night to finish alot of homework, and studies really hard for exams, and takes her studies seriously. She’s also a super-friend who is always smiling, always positive, and has the corniest jokes *kidding, Sugar!* Continue reading

The Glambox Airbrush Workshop

It’s been a while since makeup school, and it’s definitely been a while since I’ve done makeup. I actually miss it. Those were the carefree days that I can let my creativity go wild and free, and just play with makeup to my heart’s content.

I chose a strange path- post-makeup school, I’ve decided to keep my day job doing sales for a printing press, and I have put in almost all of my beauty energy in my beauty business, which is Beauty & Minerals, with a growing brand, Charm ( makeup brushes ). I’ve used my passion and what I’ve learned from all the precious mentors that I’ve come studied under to create makeup brushes, just the way I like them. But then, I must admit that I get excited when I have a makeup gig, or moreso, a teaching engagement, as I really do love teaching makeup alot.

A few weeks ago, Nikki and I taught airbrush makeup, thanks to Glambox Airbrush Cosmetics. They held a contest in which 30 lucky winners would get to attend our airbrush workshop. It was really an honor to be approached by Valerie of Glambox as one of the beauty bloggers/instructors for the day. And boy, do I miss my airbrushing already! Continue reading

Makeup Artist Escapades : My Best Friend’s Wedding

Doing bridal makeup for one of my best friends is indeed an honor, and with my utmost joy, I was able to pull it off ( whew! ) despite being all nervous, as I really wanted Maisie to look beautiful during her wedding day!

As promised, here are some nice photos for some show and tell to my readers!

maisiew3

Okay, the first pic was me, hurriedly retouching more lipstick on Maisie as she needed more color on the lips, as per the photographer’s recommendation. I used the lipstick to pack more color on her lips as my lip brush was buried inside my purse already! Oh well, it was her own lipstick anyway, so no issues!

Charm Goes Professional with The Charm PRO Makeup Brush Line!

charmpro

Sometimes, I think of Beautynomics as the older ( but very very pretty, still ) sister of Beauty & Minerals. After all, upon starting to beauty blog four years ago, I’ve been just obsessed about beauty products, and discovering what’s really really good, I opened Beauty & Minerals roughly a year after Beautynomics to offer to the market my prized beauty picks, that are not readily available in the country. As I went on enjoying my time giving consultations and making people get converted to mineral makeup with Beauty & Minerals, I also got smitten with makeup brushes. Thus, I’ve created my own line of makeup brushes, called Charm. Continue reading

Makeover Escapades : Nikki

Nikki

Nikki Guevara is a stage actress, a singer, a TV personality, and just finished taking up makeup lessons in the Make Up For Ever Academy here, so just imagine the pressure on my shoulders when I was asked to do her makeup for this photoshoot. Oh yes, my shoulders were sore for an entire week after. Hahaha!

Kidding aside, Nikki was so much fun to talk to, as she was friendly, and we had our love for makeup as our common ground. She even brought with her a traincase full of droolworthy makeup ( at least she was more organized than I am! ) , and a Bobbi Brown Makeup Manual, that I really really love as well! As I was chatting with her, I kept on sensing that she looked familiar, until out of the blue, I just asked, “are you related to Carla Guevara?” She said, “Yes, she’s my sister!” No wonder, they looked so much alike ! I remember applauding over Carla Guevara-Laforteza’s performance in Avenue Q, and looks like Nikki is also going to steal the stage just like that soon! Continue reading

Makeover Escapades: Christine

Christine

lovely Christine. photo by Mark Ong

Last Sunday, I was invited by friends, and my beau for a fun photoshoot. M, knowing that I miss doing makeup, was very supportive, as I was very supportive of him as he has been too busy with work that he has neglected his hobby, which is photography.

R presented me with three beautiful models, that I was happy to stare down, and fantasize about. Oh, don’t get me wrong. I’m all wholesome! Hahaha! Makeup artists fantasize on what looks they can come up with on their subjects for that very gratifying finished product – work captured in photos.

Christine Riley was a breath of fresh air. She had great skin to begin with, and a great smile, as well! She’s very young, but I was amazed with the makeup collection that she brought for the photoshoot – a collection of MAC makeup brushes, and a wide variety of professional and high end makeup brands! Well, girls really start early! Christine is quite a makeup and makeup brush collector, that I had the honor of using her tools, and products for the shoot.

Makeup Artist Escapades : Makeup for Adidas Philippine Range Part 2

As for my second installment on sharing my makeup artist adventure being a part of the Adidas Philippine Range photoshoot, let me present to you, the girls!

I must admit that doing makeup for male can be easy, but tricky at the same time. They don’t call it “makeup,” instead, they call it “grooming”. What do you do with guys for photoshoots? You fix their hair ( the hairstylist takes care of that ), you make sure their skin is all even and all imperfections ( if any ) covered, you put on some hint of color on the lips, and the cheeks, and make sure that their eyebrows combed neatly. For some instances they do need contouring for that defined jaw and more masculine, chiseled look.

As for the girls…it’s a long list! Hahaha!
