Beautynomics Prom Special : Sarabeth, My Prom Princess

glam

They say we look alike.

and that, is probably why I am so hands-on with her with her prom preparations, it’s like me going to the prom over and over again! Last year was quite an experience for us ( I describe it as exciting, exhilarating, and refreshing ), and as this is Sarabeth’s last year in High School, and she is attending the Junior-Senior Prom again, hello??? Sister Sophie is on top of all things!

prom6

Here’s Sarabeth bare-faced, squeaky clean of anything. Sigh, I miss that kind of youth wherein you can just wear your face like that, look really cute, and just be happy! Well, what’s my idea for her look?

Anything but ordinary. Reason? Because it’s what she is. Extraordinary. I am in fact so proud of her that she has self-studied herself into excellence maintaining good grades, and being on the swim team. I sometimes feel so bad for her that she stays late at night to finish alot of homework, and studies really hard for exams, and takes her studies seriously. She’s also a super-friend who is always smiling, always positive, and has the corniest jokes *kidding, Sugar!* Continue reading

Celebrating in Style With Sunsilk!

Post

Sunsilk has been a mainstay in my household as long as I could remember. It was the first brand that actually tamed my flyaway hair when I was in high school, as a good friend suggested the product to me and life was never quite the same. As the brand progressed, it kept getting better and better. It became the brand that I’d recommend to my clients to wash their makeup brushes with, as it has crazy-fabulous softeners that even animal hair can be softened like that! Sunsilk is one of the best shampoo brands, in my opinion, and I would always recommend it to people wanting soft, and sleek, frizz-free hair.

One tidbit for you – did you know that Sunsilk’s following in Facebook has reached its 1,000,000 mark? Yes, and it’s been months since it reached the highest number of fans in the Philippines. It only shows one thing, that Sunsilk, indeed, has touched so many lives ( or hair, for that matter, haha! ) and with the Hair Experts line that featured specially formulated products from the world’s hair experts ( Teddy Charles, Yuko Yamashita, to name some ), it has indeed gained more fans of the brand.

As a celebration for the Sunsilk Hair Experts’ Facebook page hitting the one million mark , they have conducted a 24-hour promotion wherein they invited fans to contribute congratulatory photos and videos. Everyone was given a Sunsilk gift pack, while the 50 most creative submissions were chosen, and were in for a treat – they were to be celebrities for a day with a makeover and a photoshoot! Well, ask me how fabulous this celebration was? I shall tell you, as we celebrated with Sunsilk, joining the 50 winners in a fun-filled makeover day! Continue reading

Beautynomics Makeover : Myself

curly1

Oh, I just love being a girl. Doing makeup, playing dress up, and oh, shopping! Can’t I thank the Lord for I was born female this lifetime?

Yes, this blog Beautynomics was born because of my budding love for beauty – may it be skin care, body care, and even makeup, I just love them all, and the topics just shift from my mood, in whatever I’m getting interested it at a point in time.

I do have a confession to make to all of you. My makeup skills come out when I feel really stressed, or I’m not feeling too good about myself. There just comes the need to look good to somehow appreciate yourself, and finally, be happy! It’s like putting on some killer lens that you see the world in a brighter, and cooler way. So as I was really swamped with work this week ( oh, so much! ) and I wasn’t feeling too pretty lately, I’ve decided to go to the House of Obagi event all dolled up. Of course, House of Obagi is one of my favorite establishments, as well as Obagi, the brand, so what reason is there for me not to look my best? I also needed to feel good about myself, so there, I spent an hour or so in front of my bathroom fixing up, having a personal makeover, courtesy of me! I love those moments!

The Glambox Airbrush Workshop

It’s been a while since makeup school, and it’s definitely been a while since I’ve done makeup. I actually miss it. Those were the carefree days that I can let my creativity go wild and free, and just play with makeup to my heart’s content.

I chose a strange path- post-makeup school, I’ve decided to keep my day job doing sales for a printing press, and I have put in almost all of my beauty energy in my beauty business, which is Beauty & Minerals, with a growing brand, Charm ( makeup brushes ). I’ve used my passion and what I’ve learned from all the precious mentors that I’ve come studied under to create makeup brushes, just the way I like them. But then, I must admit that I get excited when I have a makeup gig, or moreso, a teaching engagement, as I really do love teaching makeup alot.

A few weeks ago, Nikki and I taught airbrush makeup, thanks to Glambox Airbrush Cosmetics. They held a contest in which 30 lucky winners would get to attend our airbrush workshop. It was really an honor to be approached by Valerie of Glambox as one of the beauty bloggers/instructors for the day. And boy, do I miss my airbrushing already! Continue reading

Beautynomics Prom Special : Sarabeth

roses

Tis the season for roses to bloom.

Dear Sugar,

I think that I must be the most excited person, when you announced that it’s time for you to have your JS Prom. I had such a fun time preparing for Strawberry’s prom 5 years ago, and I just can’t believe that my baby sister is now turning into a lady. I could swear it was just yesterday when you were struggling with words, and uttering silly baby words, as I laughed and happily conversed in baby lingo with you.

Pretty Powerful – That’s What I Am!

cute

probaby my first time wearing full makeup, ever

“When I grow up, I want to be beautiful.” must be my motto when I was in my kiddies.

I was such an eager beaver to be beautiful one day, even wearing my mommy’s heels when it’s not yet my time, trying to glam up in my own way, even if I was still a kid. I loved to dress up and make myself pretty whenever I had the chance, and that love for beauty was with me as I grew up. Something top secret? I even secretly dreamed to be on TV one day. When the auditions for Ang TV were on, I found myself wanting to audition! Hahaha! Oh vain Sophie!

Beauty Project : Sarabeth Goes To The Prom!

bm04

Family means everything to me. Perhaps, the greatest gift that the Lord has given me is this family that I have, as we’ve been through happy times, and bad times that made us stronger, and even closer together. I pride myself with having a tight-knit family, and not to mention cute siblings! Haha!

If you’d rummage the first days of my Beautynomics blog, you’d see how I prepared for my sister Suzzane’s prom last 2006. It’s been four years, and Suzzane’s graduated college already, and is working for our family business, as well as helping me out with Beauty & Minerals ( you might have seen her during one of my bazaars ). I fondly reminisce that wonderful memory of me preparing and guiding her for her prom, from going with her to the fashion house to have her dress made, to accompanying her to the salon to have her makeup done, and even stalking her to the hotel room to take photos of her and her friends! As the older sister, I just had this “mother hen” instinct that wanted her to look best, and be really happy for one of those memorable events a person could ever have. Awww, I am getting sentimental!

Now, fast forward to 2011, it’s my sister Sarabeth’s turn to have her prom, and Im just about as excited as ever! Sarabeth is one cute, and sweet bunny of a sister, with her fair skin and really pretty features. In school, she has a really charming and engaging personality, with her having lots of friends and being involved in various extra curricular activities ( such a social butterfly my sister is ). She’s also quite a nerd ( which is a good thing ) as she studies alot, and takes her academics seriously ( good thing! ) I think her greatest asset is her smile, as she beams every single time I see her! ( to the point that I tease her about it ). She’s also very sweet to us family members, and I distinctly remember her first kiss ( ever! ) at the Landmark foodcourt, when we were all seated, as she, as a cute baby suddenly kissed me and I shrieked, “Sugar ( her nickname ) knows how to kiss na, because she kissed me!” Hahaha! Such memory! To sum up on how I know Sarabeth – she’s cute, sweet, friendly, nice, and very very smart. I just can’t believe that this baby…..

Makeover Escapades : Nikki

Nikki

Nikki Guevara is a stage actress, a singer, a TV personality, and just finished taking up makeup lessons in the Make Up For Ever Academy here, so just imagine the pressure on my shoulders when I was asked to do her makeup for this photoshoot. Oh yes, my shoulders were sore for an entire week after. Hahaha!

Kidding aside, Nikki was so much fun to talk to, as she was friendly, and we had our love for makeup as our common ground. She even brought with her a traincase full of droolworthy makeup ( at least she was more organized than I am! ) , and a Bobbi Brown Makeup Manual, that I really really love as well! As I was chatting with her, I kept on sensing that she looked familiar, until out of the blue, I just asked, “are you related to Carla Guevara?” She said, “Yes, she’s my sister!” No wonder, they looked so much alike ! I remember applauding over Carla Guevara-Laforteza’s performance in Avenue Q, and looks like Nikki is also going to steal the stage just like that soon! Continue reading

Makeover Escapades: Christine

Christine

lovely Christine. photo by Mark Ong

Last Sunday, I was invited by friends, and my beau for a fun photoshoot. M, knowing that I miss doing makeup, was very supportive, as I was very supportive of him as he has been too busy with work that he has neglected his hobby, which is photography.

R presented me with three beautiful models, that I was happy to stare down, and fantasize about. Oh, don’t get me wrong. I’m all wholesome! Hahaha! Makeup artists fantasize on what looks they can come up with on their subjects for that very gratifying finished product – work captured in photos.

Christine Riley was a breath of fresh air. She had great skin to begin with, and a great smile, as well! She’s very young, but I was amazed with the makeup collection that she brought for the photoshoot – a collection of MAC makeup brushes, and a wide variety of professional and high end makeup brands! Well, girls really start early! Christine is quite a makeup and makeup brush collector, that I had the honor of using her tools, and products for the shoot.
