I grew up with Camay.
My aunt would often tease me as the “batang dalaga” ( the kid – teenager ) , because I would pretty much idolize my mom and aspire to do whatever she does, as she is just so beautiful. When Mom and Dad go out on a date, I sneak in their room, play with makeup, and even wear Mom’s clothes. Hahaha! One of the things that Mom and I shared was Camay. We would use this really fragrant pink bar of soap way back ( I have this inborn fondness for pink, okay ) , and it was just so endearing that when she saw me go home with some new Camay goodies, she instantly beamed, and told me, “Do you remember we used to have Camay in the bathroom and use that soap? Remember?” Boy, that was at least twenty years ago. Such fond memories, that just brings a big smile on my face.
I guess the young ones do not know or have not experienced Camay. It was just as synonymous as asking my 18-year old sister, “Do you know the Brady Bunch? Bioman? Voltes Five? Or even Carebears?” Yeah, I would just gasp in shock on how they could NOT know the Carebears ( anyone? sympathize with me, please! hahaha! ) Care Bears…STARE!!!! ( okay, some are not picking up, sorry! Google it up, they are just so cute! )
Going back, I do not know what happened to Camay as it just disappeared during my teenage years, and I recall seeing it briefly poised for a relaunch a few years ago. But everything seems really good right now as they had a formal relaunch of Camay, with Angelica Panganiban as their endorser. Continue reading
