My hair’s awfully wavy. Really. And awfully thick! Every hairstylist that has come across my hair has told me how impossibly thick my hair was that it was a bit difficult to style. During college, I had to rely on hair relaxing services over at David’s Salon across my school just to tame my hair somehow. When hair irons were introduced to the market, I was one of the first who purchased, and tried ironing my hair every single day, getting nice comments from my friends, such as, “hey your hair looks so straight and nice today!”
Yeah, that went into my head. Sooooo…I used that not-even ceramic coated hair iron on my hair every single day until one day, I saw that my hair looked stick straight, with really ugly, flyaway ends. Mukhang walis ( looking like a broomstick ). It became really dry and really awkward looking. I stopped.
Rebonding happened. Thank goodness for rebonding that I was able to have beautiful, frizz-free, well-tamed hair for a good year, before undergoing it again. It really made my life easier, but at the expense of my hair’s health. My hair was getting more brittle by the minute, and after three successive rebonding treatments ( that’s three years, ) I finally stopped for a mini-hair-vacation, just letting my hair be (BUT I didn’t say anything against hair coloring hahahaha! ohhh Sophie! ) .
As of late, I’m crazy about steam technology. Steam technology veers away from ceramic, or even tourmaline technology, if you talk about hair irons, as steam technology is powered by steam pressure from water, and does not harm the hair. If you notice that my hair’s been curly in some of the photos ( or most of them ) last year, it’s because I’ve used Caruso Steam Rollers. They’re really hair-friendly, that do not damage my hair at all. Bleached, colored hair is fragile enough, and can really be pushed to the brink of damage-dom when styled too frequently. My hair really needs gentle, but effective styling tools. I’m counting on steam technology. With my steam curlers as one of my precious possessions right now, imagine my glee when friend Mikki, representing L’Oreal Professionel told me about L’Oreal Professionel’s new Steampod – it’s a hair iron powered by steam technology! Heaven has just arrived. It heard me!!!
For the first time, two world class brands combine their expertise to create a revolutionary tool: Steampod. Result of a collaborative partnership between L’Oréal Professionnel and Rowenta, Steampod is the first ever hair smoothing iron that delivers a continuous stream of high-pressure steam. Steampod’s flawless technology and associated care products guarantee never-before-seen results that could spark a new hair revolution.
Steampod is the world’s first hair smoothing iron that delivers a continuous stream of pressurized steam from an in-built steam generator. This is in partnership with Rowenta, the world leader in household appliances and inventor of steam iron.
As the name suggests, the key element is steam. Steam:
• Gently opens up the cuticle delivering the treatment into the core
• Gradually heats the hair preventing heat shock to prevent cuticle damage
• Smooths down the cuticle sealing the ends for a flawless finishSteampod offers distinct performance advantages, thanks to four technical innovations:
• A water demineralization system for steam of unrivalled purity*
• Five temperature settings (from 170 to 210 °C) depending on the desired style and the sensitivity of the hair
• An ultra-thin detachable comb to untangle hair before application
• High-tech, anodized ceramic, adjustable plates for uniform pressure and perfect smoothing from the roots to the ends.

As illustrated above, Steampod smoothens the hair without damaging it, unlike the effect on the left, which was done by a regular hair iron.
Yesterday, I was one of the lucky few to witness, and try Steampod, and see the goodness it could give my hair!
My current hair condition is colored, bleached with highlights. It’s highly susceptible to damage, and cannot withstand any more chemical treatments. I can’t push it anymore. I was to choose between two treatments : Pro-Keratin Steam Care Service, and Pro-Keratin Steam Bond Service.

Pro-Keratin Steam Bond is hair rebonding using the Steampod, while Pro-Keratin Steam Care is a milder hair smoothening treatment. I call it a mild hair relaxing treatment.
I chose ( no, I actually had no choice hahaha! ) the Pro-Keratin Steam Care Service because of my current hair condition ( colored and bleached ) – I was not allowed to have my hair rebonded. Do take note that even with the word “Keratin” present, there is no formaldehyde ( a known carcinogen ) in their formulation, as their keratin is vegetable-derived. It’s a win-win situation for both the health conditions of the one to avail of the treatment, and the hairstylist. It’s supposed to be safe for all!

So what happened was – my hair was washed, smoothened using the Steampod, and applied the Pro-Keratin Extenso treatment, and left on for fifteen minutes. After fifteen minutes, it was time to rinse, as my hair was blow-dried quickly as I was a busy girl that day!

I was really, really pleased with the effect of Steam Care on me, as my hair looked even healthier, the shine was amplified ( my highlights were even brighter, I love it! ), and my hair, looking sleek and straight, and as I went home, my family was telling me that my hair seemed longer. It’s the straightening, and smoothening of my waves!

Steam Care‘s effect would last for around three days, but the smoothness and the shine would be there for weeks. L’Oreal Professionel X-tenso Pro-Keratin products ( proudly, with no formaldehyde! ) are the suggested take-home products for those who have availed of Steam Care Service and Steam Bond Service to maintain the sleek and smooth hair effects of the treatment. These products are steam-activated, as well!
Pro-Keratin Steam Care and Steam Bond services are exclusively available at Bench Fix Salons, and is priced at P 1,500 ( short ) and P2,500.00 (long ) for Steam Care and P6,000 ( short ) and P 7,000 (long ) for Steam Bond. I highly recommend this to everyone, as this is the safest, and most gentle smoothening service I’ve ever come across. This is for first-timers who are afraid to get their hair burnt and damaged, and this is for those who have colored, fragile, damaged hair that still want smoothening and hair nourishment , but don’t want that risk of extra damage anymore.
