Just last week, I was asked to take on a challenge to improve my skin. With my age ( as I am not getting any younger ), I am in the point that I would do everything to preserve my skin’s youthfulness and try to retard aging. God knows how stress and overworking is taking toll on my skin! I used to be carefree and all and not take anti-aging seriously, but as fine lines under my eyes start creeping in, and maybe laugh lines, I told myself – I had to take action!
It’s just so coincidental that Kiehl’s has asked me to partake on the Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Diaries Challenge, as I just recently switched to Kiehl’s skincare.

from my initial haul during the Kiehl’s event held last October…
Just by using the Blue Herbal Astringent Herbal Lotion got me convinced to try out the Blue Herbal Gel Cleanser and some Rare Earth products to alternate products with. This was my haul by the end of December 2012.
…and it progressed to completing the entire product line of Kiehl’s Blue Herbal product line ( just missing the spot corrector! ) just this first week of January! I love it so much!
I promise, Kiehl’s Blue Herbal line is an oily-skinned, comedone ( whiteheads/blackheads )-problematic, acne-prone person’s dream come true. It improved my skin drastically just by using the toner, and now that I am using the facial wash, it’s doing wonders to my skin, and my skin’s never this better!
So, what a pleasant addition Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery products are to my skin care regimen. The Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery line is the iconic product line mostly identified with the brand, as it is the best-selling product line of them all. Kiehl’s sells one Midnight Recovery Concentrate globally every minute and has sold more than one million bottles since its debut, and is a bestseller in countries like Dubai, Japan, France, Spain and Germany!
So what does the Midnight Recovery Concentrate do?
The Midnight Recovery formulation boosts skin’s repair and regeneration processes when it is naturally programmed to best absorb active ingredients, typically between midnight and 4 a.m.
Naturally cultivated, these oils are extracted from natural sources. They are powerful skin regenerators and reinforce the lipid barrier, such as with Squalane, and fortify the skin barrier, such as with Evening Primrose, Coriander and Rose Seed Oils.
In as short as four weeks, clinical test result showed:
• Fine Lines reduced by 37%
• Wrinkles reduced by 33%
• Feel of roughness reduced by 28%
and applying it at night time makes it the perfect time…well, do you want some technical facts about the magical time that night time is? Okay read on…
During the night, the skin’s metabolism of nutrition is at a maximum rate due to the circadian rhythm of the body. Sometimes called the “Human Clock,” a circadian rhythm is roughly a 24-hour cycle in the biochemical, physiological or behavioral processes of living things. Research done on the skin shows that it also has specific rhythms, which differ between day and night. During the day, skin is focusing on protection – the sebum secretion rate increases while the skin has a low metabolism. At night, skin focuses on repair and recovery from daily damage; this activity attains its maximum level as the blood flow increases and skin’s rate of absorption of actives and cell turnover are at their peak.
While we sleep, the skin is most amenable to rejuvenation and recovery as there are few environmental stressors that detract from its healing process.
That was quite exhaustive that I needed to let you read that! It’s amazing, right? So, skin is actually oilier during the day because it wants to block sun damage, and environmental effects, and at night, products are easily absorbed by the skin. It’s true, I actually feel that my skin is less oilier at night, and even skin care products are almost quickly absorbed! It’s science after all.
Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Concentrate was developed as a anhydrous ( water-free ), unconventional concentration of skin-boosting, plant-derived botanical oils and essential oils. For Botanical oils, Squalene, Evening Primrose Oil, Coriander and Rose Hip Seed oils makes skin younger-looking, improving the skin elasticity and further blurring fine lines and wrinkles. Essential oils Lavender, Rosemary, Geranium, and Rose on the other hand, boost the efficacy of the concentrate. This blend is anti-inflammatory ( great for irritated skin ), restores skin’s sebum secretion rate, and protects and repairs the skin from the effects of environmental damage.
Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Eye, on the other hand, is more targeted for the eye area, keeping the eye area youthful-looking and less stressed. It promises to address concerns related to the eye area – puffiness, dark circles, and fine lines. Please save me.
So, I just said yes, to younger-looking, and better skin. That was quite a good decision! Do follow me as I write my diary in Beautynomics about using the Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery line for 28 days, and you just might win your own set, too! Do stay tuned for my next update!
Do follow me on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram ( username is sophiedoodles ) , and follow Kiehl’s Facebook and Twitter as well to get updates not only from me, but from my co-beauty bloggers who are partaking the challenge! Boy, this is going to be interesting as we all have different skin types. Shen and I are almost on the same boat, battling acne all our lives, only I have an additional whiteheads/blackheads problem ( argh! ) , Angela has really smooth skin, and Jenn of Kikay Corner has well-maintained, fair skin that I envy!
Well, stay tuned, my lovelies!
