Sun Life Financial Presents A Sun Shorts Film : 1945

Hello there!

Allow me to make a viewing recommendation while we are in this really bad weather. I take it that everyone’s at home and safe? ( and I hope you are! ). While being stuck at home, my friend Tara shared this film with me, and I was thinking, what does Sun Life Financial, an insurance company, got to do with 1945?

Watching this film made my heart heavy because I would not want to live in a time like 1945. Everything screams uncertainty, and fear was just all over the place. I don’t like that feeling. But our grandparents experienced that, and I can only imagine the horrors they faced during that time. Watch on and see what I mean.

And as to what role Sun Life Financial played in this film? At the end of the film, you’ll know.

And let me know what you think.

Pond’s Institute Launch in Manila

A few weeks ago, just when I was having the busiest days of my life ( my best friend’s wedding!!! ), I was able to attend the Pond’s Institute Launch in SM Mall of Asia. They had on-site consultations, skin analysis, and some free skin services there.

So, happy 150 years to Pond’s, and 20 years, to the Pond’s Institute!!!

What I know of is that they have the prestigious Pond’s Institute in Shanghai, and I think that they made a makeshift one here in Manila for celebrating Pond’s milestone in the Philippines. I mean, come on, even our grandmothers swear by Pond’s Cold Cream!

MAC Cosmetics A/W Trends 2012 Presentation With James Molloy

aw1

This week, I forgot that everything existed because I was all set to attend the MAC A/W Trends Report. This is an event definitely worth going to, as MAC Cosmetics is always on the forefront of makeup trends, as they are the number one choice for runway and fashion makeup!

James Molloy, Director of Makeup Artistry for MAC Cosmetics APAC region, was there to personally showcase the A/W trends, what’s hot and what’s not! I was really thrilled as I was able to experience firsthand new color trends and techniques. He credits his skills as working tirelessly during fashion weeks around the world, collaborating with designers, and such. Ahhhh. It was one of my best days this year! Anyway, moving on…

aw7

gorgeous, isn’t he? His accent also happened to sound like music to the ears. Made my afternoon as I was smiling with his presentation! such a pleasant person! :)

Four gorgeous Filipina models ( proudly ours! yay! ) were there as James illustrated the A/W trends, further “localizing” the trend for Filipinas. I really loved that aspect.

So, what’s big for the upcoming A/W season? Let’s check it out. Continue reading

Beautynomics Review : Clinique Pore Refining Solutions Line

Pore Refining Solutions (1)

Of all the luxury brands out there, I consider Clinique as the brand with the best skincare. Knowing me, being someone heavily relying on dermatological products for my skin, Clinique is one of the store-sold brands that I just really trust. Actually, it’s just almost Clinique that I trust! I just love the Clinique 3-Step System, from the facial wash, to the toner, to the moisturizer, that I am excited to share with you what’s new with Clinique!

This July, Clinique Philippines launches its Pore Refining Solutions Line. This line aims to target oily skinned individuals who also happen to have enlarged pores. Ahhh. I bet alot of you can relate, because this happens to alot of people!

The Clinique Pore Refining Solutions line aims to keep our pores clean, refined ( hence, smaller ), leaving skin looking “refined” and fresh. Whew, some hope! I feel ( from personal experience, of course ) that having enlarged pores is not a good feeling. I feel that oil squirts from my face ( haha! ) and my skin is uneven in texture and it’s not smooth in texture. I was told by my dermatologist that pore refining products are a bit tricky, because only chemical peels or resurfacing can truly refine pores. So I am intrigued what Clinique has to offer to address this concern. Challenge mode, ON!

So, I shall introduce you to each of the Pore Refining Solutions products and give you my honest take on them!

MAC Cosmetics and Archie Comics Collaboration : MAC Archie’s Girls

archie

I am totally loving the news of this new MAC Cosmetics‘ collaboration – the comics series that I have grown up with, loved from childhood until now. Before, I would cajole my mom to buy me Double Digest issues of Betty and Veronica, as double digest issues were more worth the money than the thinner-paged counterparts, and during this modern day and time, I find myself buying episodes of Archie Comics ( specifically Archie Marries Veronica/ Archie Marries Betty ) via iTunes.

There were some days that I wish I were Betty, and some days that I wish I were Veronica. Gosh, I can totally relate to both of them!

So, how about my two loves joining together for an awesome collaboration? This might not be the wildest collaboration, but I know in my heart, that my generation will think it is the dearest to our hearts! This is too close to my heart that I will be awaiting March 2013!!!

Skincare Question Answered : All About Oily Skin!

Hello Ms. Beautynomics, could you help me with my problem? I’m turning 19 years old next week, and I want to get rid of my super oily skin, specially when it’s hot. My face feels sticky when I’m in school. I want to ask, what’s the best skin care product for oily skin?
- Colegiala

Dear Colegiala,

First of all, let me just tell you, that I experienced exactly the same thing when I was in college! My skin was really, really, really oily ( crazy oily ). I would also congratulate you, that you have oily skin, because in the long run, you will love your skin type. Your skin will not wrinkle easily like ther skin types. Those who have dry skin have the danger of wrinkling easily, and oily skinned people are the last to be affected by it. Woot!

On to the solution – I remember, what I did before, was have a minty facial wash in travel size with me, to wash my face when I feel really icky and greasy. I also hoarded packs of oil blotting sheets from Gatsby before for the purpose. But here are my picks of products that I can recommend to you to make having oily skin bearable. Take note that I have put two options – a “Splurge” option if you are willing to spend for skin care, or a “Save” option that is budget-friendly. Depends on you!

Splurge Option

A tweaked Clinique 3-Step System

For oily skin, I deem Clinique the best skin care, and the brand is great for those who would want to have their first skin care brand gentle, and yet effective. My best bet is for you to go to your nearest Clinique counter ( Rustans Shangri-la, Glorietta, Gateway? ) and have your skin diagnosed, but here’s an initial recommendation for those who have oily skin :

Facial Wash : Clinique Liquid Facial Soap for Oily Skin

What I love about it : It leaves your skin squeaky clean! For oily skin, the most important thing is to avoid creamy cleansers. Those milky ones, those creamy ones. They won’t be able to clean your skin off the oil and dirt. Stick to water-based ones, just like this. I love Clinique’s Liquid Facial Soap for Oily Skin that it effectively removes the oil and dirt that I’ve accumulated thru the day, and yet my skin does not feel tight. That’s another important thing. You don’t want your skin too tight or overcleansed, it might trigger more oil production, making your skin oilier. Look for something just right. Just like this.
