It’s the summer, and I’m all feeling warm and icky, that heavy makeup just isn’t an option. No matter how much I love makeup that it smoothens my raw, imperfect skin, my nerves act up with heavy stuff, and my nerves are demanding that they usually win.
This summer, I take solace with Clinique’s Superbalanced Mineral Powder. As a mineral makeup fan, I have a soft spot for ground powder, and loose mineral powders that give coverage to the skin. They feel absolutely light on the skin, but give me ample coverage that is natural, and yet long lasting. Thru the years, I’ve experimented with mineral makeup, and traditional makeup, and I think mineral makeup really spoils the skin with its non pore-clogging qualities and the benefit that it allows the skin to breathe.
I love Clinique Superbalanced Mineral Powder as it’s so cute! This compact pot, when opened, reveals a grinding wheel, that as you turn, grinds out mineral powder for you to buff in your skin. It’s actually a mess-proof way of dispensing mineral makeup!
I got my shade in Medium, which is great for light to medium skin tones. I’d like to give you a series of pros and cons of this product, so here I go!
Positive
* Coverage is buildable. You can apply a sheer layer for a natural, just polished look, but you can add more layers should you seek more coverage.
* Doesn’t spill. Packaging is really awesome for this one. I explained this earlier
The compact is also cute, too!
* Very economical when used. I feel that this will last me a long time because I only need so little product to get the coverage that I want!
* It feels very light on the skin, and my pores don’t feel clogged after a day’s worth of use! This is a BIG thing for acne sufferers, that your skin does not suffer at the end of the day as a consequence of applying makeup!
* Long lasting. It gives me a good number of hours before I need to retouch!
* Has SPF15. You can never have enough sun protection, right?
Cons :
* Mineral makeup purists might not like the fact that Clinique Superbalanced Mineral Powder has talc in it, which mineral makeup purists rule out in what is “mineral makeup.” Companies argue that talc is a mineral. Well then, everyone should have their own definition of what mineral makeup is, and what ingredient they want in it. I suggest to check the ingredients and decide for yourself.
* Some people are allergic to bismuth oxychloride and itch. In my case, I don’t ( whew! ). This ingredient is responsible for the natural glow effect on the skin.
Neutral
* It has a matte finish when applied, but when your natural oils settle in, it becomes slightly glowy. It must be the bismuth oxychloride that makes it have that finish. This can be good, or bad, depending on your preference, but I feel that it adds to that natural glow to the skin, making it not look too flat.
* I am quite unsure of the undertone of this one. I feel that this is neutral in undertone.
Overall, I choose to use Clinique Superbalanced Mineral Powder for the summertime as I love the finish it gives my skin. Just enough to cover my imperfections and create a new, but non-sticky layer of good skin, but also make it look natural and give that glow. It’s really, really natural looking that I love it.
Notes :
* For dry-skinned users, apply moisturizer or primer prior to applying Clinique Superbalanced Mineral Powder. Powder would need something to “adhere” to, and well-hydrated skin can make powder melt into a good finish.
* For those who have open pores, fine lines, and texture-related imperfections on the skin, you would definitely need a primer prior to using Clinique Superbalanced Mineral Powder. Powder is powder, it is dry, and on raw skin, it will follow your skin’s texture as you buff it in. It will settle in fine lines and pores, just like any powder product. Get a primer that will fill in your pores and fine lines, so that as you buff the mineral powder on to your skin, you will achieve a texture-perfect coverage on the skin. This applies to all powder products in the market!
* Acne sufferers or those who have open pores must stay away from liquid foundations this summer, specially if they are going outdoors. Mixing dirt + oil + liquid foundation- clogged pores in the making. So I’m sticking with mineral powders this summertime to save my skin from the dermatologist’s wrath!

This is me, wearing Clinique Superbalanced Mineral Powder. I just used concealer for my undereyes and some blemishes ( argh, summer is breakout season! ). I love it! On the photo, notice that dewy glow? That’s the effect that I love that was achieved by Clinique! For such a lazy day, with my eyes hardly awake ( you noticed, right? haha! ), this powder is the best to keep me looking polished and looking naturally better than having no makeup at all. I also applied primer to fill in my pores to achieve this effect.

Notice the photo bomber behind me. Photo bomber – a term that I learned from my baby sisters, which means someone who steals your limelight from the photo LOL!!!
Well, how is your summer so far? I hope everyone stays cool!
