It’s the season of warm sunshine again, and with temperatures rising, one would feel the need to warp into the world of powdery sand and turquoise seas. Tis the time of the year when everybody wants to be carefree, have a good time, and toss their worries away like a beachball. Haha!
Havaianas, or Havs as I fondly call them, play a significant role in my summertime. Although I love wearing them all year round as I am a very laid back person, I excitedly show off the limited edition pairs I buy, and proudly wear new pairs to the beach like a girl going to the prom. Yeah, that’s just me! I remember buying fancy Havaianas designs all year round, just keeping them, and laying them out when it’s time to beach, to make my “beach debut” of my new pair!
And just last week, the kind folks over at GMCI sent over Havaianas’ latest summer designs – traditional dolls from all over the world! Oh, how I love them! I do have Kokeshi dolls at home that I proudly display, and believe me, they’re too cute that they inspire me every single day! What GMCI introduced to me though, is another kind of doll from Russia, called Matryoshka.

Matryoshka. Matryoshka. Say it with me. Hahahaha! Now, doesn’t that crisp Russian word make you feel all exotic? The word comes from the Latin word “mater,” which means, mother. Oh just look at the doll. When you open one, you see another smaller doll inside. And if you open up the smaller doll, comes another smaller doll! When laid out together, they seem like one happy mother-daughters team! I just find them too cute for words! One trivia for the matryoshka dolls – did you know that every matryoshka doll is special, as in order for a sit to fit perfectly, all the Matryoshka dolls must be made from a single unique piece of wood? That is just fascinating.

I am currently loving the matryoshka prints on my new bronze Havaianas Slim pair. They just look so dainty and sweet! Also, not to mention, they give this timeless, magical feel of something shared thru generations. It brings me back to my childhood when I’d play with dolls, and I’m sure, that once upon a time in Russia, that little children loved to play with these as well.
Well, who’s lemming, who’s lemming? I am actually planning to get the other two designs – the Havaianas Slim Kokeshi ( inspired by the kokeshi dolls from Japan that I SO love – maybe I’d get them in red because I collect red kokeshi dolls ) and maybe a Havaianas Slim Braziian, inspired by the beautiful, and colorful Bahiana dolls from Brazil! Whoopee!
