roses

Tis the season for roses to bloom.

Dear Sugar,

I think that I must be the most excited person, when you announced that it’s time for you to have your JS Prom. I had such a fun time preparing for Strawberry’s prom 5 years ago, and I just can’t believe that my baby sister is now turning into a lady. I could swear it was just yesterday when you were struggling with words, and uttering silly baby words, as I laughed and happily conversed in baby lingo with you.

As early as December, I already sought out help from my bazaar neighbors, Camille and Charlotte Co from Coexist. Camille’s designs are very feminine, and have this really ethereal touch, and I think that she’d be able to nail down the design what I have in mind – baby-ish, fairy-tale like, and pink, as I think your fair skin looks good with it. I wasn’t disappointed with my choice of couturier, as your prom dress turned out to be a unique masterpiece.

Sugar’s prom ensemble

I was able to shop something for you during my side-trip to Singapore as I went to Cambodia this January – your prom shoes! When I saw this pair in Charles & Keith, I knew it was so you. I was so happy that I was able to find something so early. I just hate to cram-shop anything for prom, or formal events, as I feel that I never find anything I really want and compromise when I’m cramming!

I let you drink alot of water, nagged you to exfoliate twice a week, and apply moisturizer every night. I really seemed like a manager tending to her talent, but hey, what’s the loss if you prepare for your prom, right? I even heeded your request when you asked me to color your hair. What a vain princess you are, baby Sugar!

I also promised to do your makeup. I mean, what use would my studying makeup be, if I wouldn’t be able to do my own sister’s makeup for her prom? It’s already a given, and I was determined to pull off the best look, possible.

As your prom date drew closer and closer, it was me who was getting more nervous! I was fumbling over looks on what I think would look best on you, what eyeshadow you’d be using, and what techniques I’ll be executing. Friends would get amused on my panic attacks, my sleepless nights, and my stressed out moments. Well, I admit, I am a stage sister, and you’re making my dream come true – you’re going to be that most beautiful girl in your prom, no matter what!

me, doing Sugar’s makeup

After countless trials makeups, brainstorming over what hairstyle looks best, and heck, even what bag matches your outfit, I thought the day would never come! And the night before your prom, I honestly had the most tensed back, as I was very much pressured the night before. As I closed my eyes, I set myself ready for the day ahead, getting ready for battle. Stage Sister mode was officially ON for your Prom day!

…and the day finally came. Ahhh. Good thing that the gods were with me, as I have pleaded with them to give me all the luck in the world that day. I was able to successfully do your makeup, and your cousin Sab’s , and I was very satisfied with the output. Oh my, when you got ready, and changed into your dress, I felt so much emotions rise up in me. Ahh. My baby sister is really, really a lady already. And you were so beautiful, that I couldn’t take my eyes off you. My baby sister is now going to be the most beautiful girl in her prom!

ahhh. Such a transformation!

Mission accomplished, as you’d tell me that alot of your friends did not recognize you. Believe me, just telling your stories about your prom made me relive my good ‘ol highschool days and just left me happy and contented. Seeing photos with your friends gave me so much pride that that’s my sister – the beautiful social butterfly. It made me envision on how you’d be one day – a warm-hearted friend to all, with generous smiles for everyone.

all ready for her prom!

Now, with all that, I just have one thing to ask of you – can you stay my baby sister for a little bit longer? I honestly would miss you when you start growing up. :) Stay sweet, be the always-smiling baby that always brightens my days no matter what, and stay patient with me teasing you mercilessly sometimes. Be my baby sister forever. I love you. :)

Love,

Your Achie Apple
(yes, my nickname’s another story ;) )

  18. (February 21st, 2011 at 7:16 am)

Naiiyak ako. I have five younger sisters and I always end up doing their makeup. But I can soo relate to that feeling/anxiety of wanting to prettify them to the best of our ability so they’d really be a stand out. (*wink*) My makeup prowess couldn’t even be considered a prowess at all but I’m glad you made this post –to which I could relate. Heheh. I’m sure your sister adores you alot. And yes, I’ll be with you in that prayer — that she/they stay “baby” for a little bit longer. We’ll sure do miss them when they’ve “grown-up” — big enough to do their own make-up. =)

  19. (February 21st, 2011 at 7:18 am)

Btw, she’s really very pretty. =)

Awww :) I have three younger sisters! :) Isn’t it great, I mean doesn’t it feel great that you can contribute/help so much to how they grow up, even the least, in that “department”? :) My baby sisters will be babies in my eyes forever. :)
