…hahahaha! makeup mecca makeup mecca makeup mecca makeup mecca! ( I sound like a retard saying it over and over again, good thing that it’s only in my mind! )
MAC Cosmetics was founded in Toronto, Canada by Frank Toskan and Frank Angelo in 1984. The first U.S MAC store opened in 1991, located at Greenwich Village, New York.[1]
The company’s products were originally designed specifically for professional make-up artists, but are now sold to consumers worldwide.
Estée Lauder Companies acquired controlling interest of MAC in 1994, then completed their acquisition of the company in 1998.
Okay, MAC Cosmetics’ original homeland is in Canada, and with my trip there, who am I not to visit, and pay homage to one of the most popular makeup brands in the world?
I personally think that MAC Cosmetics give you great value for your money. They’re not drugstore makeup that are really really affordable, but MAC products aren’t too expensive either, when you compare them to luxury makeup brands. Labelled as “professional products,” these kind of products ( I consider Make Up For Ever a direct competitor as they are both professional makeup products ) give you the most by having really updated shades as they dictate, and update the runway every season, and the products must be great for photography and stage. For personal use, it’s quite a hit or miss, specially with foundations, since they can be really heavy, as thick makeup is required for photography. Well, it’s a progressive industry, so things get better. Just recently, MAC Pro Longwear Liquid Foundation was launched, and earned really rave reviews as having great coverage without feeling heavy on the skin , nor having the tendency to clog pores.

Anyway, here’s me at the MAC PRO store in Robson, Downtown Vancouver. I went there during my last day in Canada, as I was still denying myself of going there, getting all scared to splurge all my money in the store! I really thought of skipping this! Well, my defenses gave up as my friend J was also nudging me to go, and okay, last day of shopping, here we come!
The MAC PRO Store in Robson was a sight to behold. As I entered the place, my jaw dropped with such a HUGE MAC store. It was by far, the biggest MAC store I’ve ever seen in my entire life. It was really spacious, everything ( and I mean EVERYTHING ) was there from the consumer products to the PRO store exclusives. I wasn’t able to take photos as I was afraid I’d be reprimanded ( sorry, shoot me! ) , but I managed to take just one shot of me with the store as the background. My favorite was the wall of makeup brushes there – they were just SO MANY! The permanent collection was complete, and what was missing was the limited edition ones that I remember grabbing some during the occasional collections. My gosh. Complete eyebrow brushes that I so love – I just happen to love how perfectly SHARP MAC Cosmetics angled eyebrow/eyeliner brushes are. They’re my favorite in this planet Earth. Haha! I often check them in every country that I visit and I always end up getting dismayed with how incomplete the selections are, and I just could not believe that everything was just in the MAC Pro store in Robson! Ahhh!!! I managed to shop some for me, and some for my online store. If you’d like to score some of them at my purchase price, you can check them out here.
The Venomous Villains Collection were out by the time I was there, and I was so happy to have checked them out that early, as it was launched in the US a week before my visit to the store! I was regretful as I totally missed out on the grand launch in the store a week before ( September 21st, I believe ) but it was when we went for the Canadian Rockies tour! Oh well!
I was in awe with all the Pro store exclusives such as the mixing mediums ( in all forms! gel, water, etc ), pro only shades like Show Orchid and Peachstock, and lots of really rare finds like the elusive Saint Germain lipstick. There were also makeup for stage and special effects, and all that ! ahhh!! My visit there almost drove me crazy!
Well, I’m a happy happy girl with my visit there! What’s next? I’m reviewing the Venomous Villains Collection from MAC! Stay tuned!

I can feel your excitement from where I am seated now haha! Lucky you!
hello gorgeous sophie, im using NARS schiap lipstick now. Upon reading your article now, you just mentioned that MACs show orchid shade holds the standards in all hot pink lipsticks out there. Aren’t they just the same?
Earth : haha! See you Mondee!
Renee : NARS Schiap and MAC’s Show Orchid are very very close, like really close, as compared to other popular lipsticks out there like Petals and Peacocks ( MAC ), and the paler counter counterparts like the Lady Gaga Lipstick and Pink Nouveau ( hot, but still pale ). What’s making me not reach for Schiap right now is that it’s a bit drying on my lips. Show Orchid’s formula is more forgiving though.
haha, the nirvana caught me!
Wow!! I dream of going to the MAC Pro store in Canada too someday! How exciting!
