My hair had always been poofy, wavy, and coarse. I’ve always begged my mom before for me to have those regular hair relaxing treatments to make my hair more manageable, and I remember during my college days that I bought my first hair iron – at the local mall, for such a low price. I could remember my first day of using it, as my classmates remarked on how beautiful my hair was. Goodness. I could almost kiss my hair iron that time. I promised to iron my hair everyday, but guess what?

It wasn’t all that good. I would notice that my hair would get drier and drier as the days go by, and end up with stick straight, but really damaged hair. Okay, I stopped with the hair ironing and just resulted to tying my hair for as long as I could imagine.

Give it a little fast forward action, as I had my hair rebonded for the first time. It definitely felt like heaven as I could just wash and wear my hair that beautiful everyday, as I spoiled it with conditioners and those weekly hair masques. But then, hair rebonding does not last for a lifetime. In – between rebonding sessions, I have stumbled into a better quality of hair iron – in ceramic form. It was better than the first generation of hair irons, and had less damaging effects.

Another fast forward, to last year, that I have stumbled into such a precious baby, my fairly new Vidal Sassoon Cord & Cordless Hair Iron in Ceramic & Tourmaline Technology. Ohhh, tourmaline! Tourmaline is a precious gem that makes the hair shine, and makes it smooth without the damaging effects. How I longed for a tourmaline hair iron, as they were just available abroad – finally, I was able to stumble into one in the Health & Beauty section of SM Makati. Looking at the price tag – more or less 5 thousand pesos, I gulped, and made that purchase because I just knew it was worth it. What’s more worth it is the cord & cordless function, that you can use it the normal way, as you plug it in the outlet. Another way, is that you can detach the bottom part, freeing the hair iron of the cord, as you just charge it on the stand provided, and as it is fully charged, you can use it without any cords – it’s just so convenient using it like that, that you can just iron your hair anywhere !

See, it can be cordless!

The performance of this new hair iron of mine was quite impressive. It wasn’t as drying as normal hair irons, and it truly made my hair shine. Most of all, it makes my hair sleek straight in no time! It really heats up quickly and makes my hair straight fast! I love this hair iron so much that I’ve forgotten my old ceramic hair iron already. My sisters and I have been arguing with this precious hair iron as when I want to use it, I find it not in the designated place in the vanity room, but in my sister’s room as she uses it almost everyday for school! Haha! Really, this is such a treasure that I’d cry if this gets broken!

Anyway, to further shield our hair from the drying and damaging effects of the iron, heat-activated conditioners or heat defense sprays are most helpful. What I am currently using right now is Alberto Culver’s V05 Extreme Style Heat Defense Conditioning Spray. I’ve stumbled into it when I was shopping at the Landmark Department store, and it is priced quite affordably – around 200 bucks max? How wonderful! It has a neutral fragrance as you spray it on your hair prior to straightening your hair using the hair iron ( or maybe, when using curling irons! ). It is definitely one inexpensive buy that buys your hair some health and protection from hair styling tools.

Well, have a great, and beautiful weekend girls and boys!

    Hi Trixie!

Well, I’ve seen it being sold in the department store section of Landmark, but it’s safe to say that it’s available at SM since I saw V05 products, including this, in the supermarket! :)

Uy, I’ll look for this. My cousin just lent me her hair iron and it was so hot it scared me to use it on my hair.
