Last weekend, the movie houses were just so packed because everyone from toddlers to grandparents wanted to watch the much awaited Tim Burton’s adaptation of Alice in Wonderland!
I enjoyed the effects tremendously, and acting by Helena Bonham-Carter as the Red Queen was stellar, as expected, outshining Johnny Depp who plays the Mad Hatter. The story is very much different from the ones we read in storybooks, for storybooks told us how Alice fared as a kid, and this one is more of a coming-of-age continuation of Alice’s story, as she returns to her wonderland!
From the very colorful world that Alice’s adventures are never-ending, the most colorful makeup I’ve seen is the Mad Hatter’s. Take a look at him- carrot-colored eyebrows, using red shades to contour and sculpt his features, and even creating hollow-looking eye sockets!
As for my version of the Mad Hatter look, I played with the colors used on his lids – orange, and green. I subdued it further to match my everyday look. Avante garde would have to wait another day Haha!
Here it is!

Truth be told, I played with my very pigmented Ben Nye eyeshadows, but I failed capturing the vivid colors in the photograph. I seriously need to learn about lights. Haha! But then, looking at the photo, I appreciated the soft focus look despite the vivid colors. Very wearable for a fun day at the mall, or just going out for the weekend!

Eye makeup for Asian eyes are a bit challenging. Looking at the wonderful eye makeup looks of girls who have big eyes, one can only wish that we had bigger spaces on our lids to define our “outer Vs”. But then, Asian eyes have a beauty of their own, that we can use to their advantage by using the right makeup techniques. For Asian eyes, it’s not about defining the V. It’s about going “up”. Asian eyes are all about gradients going up. If you can see my outer V attempt here, no matter how much I apply and define it with closed eyes ( of course, we apply our eye makeups with closed eyes! haha! ), upon opening my eyes, everything seems nonexistent or at least, hidden by 50%. I will be preparing some tutorials on Asian eyes very soon!
Hope ya like it! I’m off to enjoy weekend! Tata!

Cute! I love the combo of the colors and it looks very summer-y as well
Nice blending!
BTW, are you still based in Singapore?
Or are you in Manila already?
Hi Lia!
I’m back in Mnl
Thank you!:)
I admire how you put on such intricate artwork in your eyelids. It seems hard to do it on yourself with just one eye open.
I know what you mean Sophie, it’s hard for me to define my outer V because of my chinky eyes
Nice look as always, will have to try this out
I spent a good chunk of Alice observing everyone’s makup, especially the Mad Hatter’s. I can’t wait for your tutorial! I don’t have Asian eyes, but my eyes are on the small side. The only eye makeup trick I know is to define the outer v, and I tend to look too chinita when I do so.
very nice! very summer too!
nicely done, I like it…fresh and vibrant look =)
very pretty summer look!
i loveee!
soph, im excited to see you tutorials!
I will definitely look forward for your tutorials since I’m also chinita
