Primers are the miracle workers in this day and age. Gone are the days when you directly apply your foundation right after your skin care, for skin is “primed” first, to be as perfect as possible, for a smooth canvass prior to applying makeup. I have large pores, and unsightly pitted scars ( much to my regret ) as lessons learned the hard way during my younger days, and primers just offer me some salvation as silicone-based ones fill in the pores and depressions, and make my skin look a bit more bearable and smooth as foundation is applied. For those who have problems with wrinkles, primers are heaven-sent as they prevent foundation from sinking in fine lines and emphasizing them, temporarily smoothing them out.

So there, that began my obsession with primers.

One really amazing primer that I have tried while I was living in Singapore was the Make Up For Ever All Matt. While I was hanging around the eye-candy display of Make Up For Ever Singapore’s Academy, and I was asking my teacher for some oil control tips for airbrush. She told me that skin needed to be prepped before airbrushing, so it was best to mix the Make Up Forever HD Primer and All Matt. I asked the makeup artist manning the counter over at MUFE what she thought of All Matt, and she chuckled, “ah, it’s a lifesaver! It’s saved me tons of jobs outside.” Without thinking, I went home with a bottle of All Matt.

All Matt comes in a small bottle ( 1.01 oz ), but for sure, it will not run out fast as you don’t need alot of this in your face. I prefer mixing this with a creamy primer of my choice ( Colorscience Line Tamer or Make Up For Ever HD Primer ), and my skin looks great all throughout the day, without much oil, but definitely not dry. I can say that this is a very effective oil control primer as it definitely controlled my oily skin. But then, applying too much of this is disastrous – I applied just All Matt a bit too much one day, and I saw my skin with enlarged pores, with my pitted scars magnified – skin was too dry. A small amount of All Matt would just be perfect, even for those who have oily skin, for effective oil control, and makeup that stays.

For those who have oily skin, and want their makeup to stay all throughout the day, as well as seek an oil controlling product, I would definitely recommend All Matt to save you from too much application of oil control finishing powders that can make your face look cakey. With All Matt, you would just need a light dusting of oil control powder to get the job done. A good, and worthy investment, if I may say!

These primers clog my pores and cause breakouts. I’d rather focus on getting healthy smooth skin by using peels and scrubs, so all I need is a light layer of foundation.
