Beautynomics Special : Beauty is Recession-Proof!

As the economy is slowing down and recession is making us cut bank on our spending, as we are being extra careful with our jobs, and finding ways to earn more and save more despite the gloomy atmosphere, recession and beauty products are just one different story. As my last entry about beautynomics goes, as the economy goes down, lipstick sales go up!

With this, L’Oreal, the number one beauty company in the world, in its 100th year, commissioned an international survey of 4,000 women in 5 countries including the United States, France, Germany, Italy and Spain. In each country, 800 women ages 15-65, who use makeup, were asked about their cosmetics products and usage.

The statistics and results are just as interesting, just like men wonder why women would act like this, or like that. Here ya go, with my notes included :

Working for a living:

Nearly half of U.S. women believe wearing makeup gives them an advantage at work and makes them feel more in control.

Chances Are, It’s Not Even Dandruff.

I’m far from perfect, that’s why I have this beauty blog of mine. I strive to be better, find ways to improve myself, find solutions to my problems, and cures to whatever issues I have.

For the longest time, it’s the flakes falling off my head that’s been bothering me. They itch like hell, and it’s the most uncomfortable feeling in the world. One would think that it’s a simple case of dandruff, and the normal dandruff shampoos like the ever-warring Head and Shoulders, CLEAR, or even Guard can cure it. I’ve tried them all, even Selsun Blue, but the uncomfortable condition just keeps coming back. Sometimes I have them, at lucky days, my scalp seems unbelievably serene. Almost like it never happened. But not for long.

One thing that I have notice is that my flakes worsten when I am highly stressed. My scalp starts itching, provoking me to scratch, as I feel so helpless. I remember years before going to the dermatologist, with her recommending me some shampoo with tar, which had the most unpleasant smell in the world, as well as using my friend’s scalp treatment prescribed by her dermatologist ( Betnovate ) that only relieved the itchiness for a forthnight, but did not cure it still.

Beautynomics Review : Make Up For Ever All Matt

Primers are the miracle workers in this day and age. Gone are the days when you directly apply your foundation right after your skin care, for skin is “primed” first, to be as perfect as possible, for a smooth canvass prior to applying makeup. I have large pores, and unsightly pitted scars ( much to my regret ) as lessons learned the hard way during my younger days, and primers just offer me some salvation as silicone-based ones fill in the pores and depressions, and make my skin look a bit more bearable and smooth as foundation is applied. For those who have problems with wrinkles, primers are heaven-sent as they prevent foundation from sinking in fine lines and emphasizing them, temporarily smoothing them out.

So there, that began my obsession with primers.

One really amazing primer that I have tried while I was living in Singapore was the Make Up For Ever All Matt. While I was hanging around the eye-candy display of Make Up For Ever Singapore’s Academy, and I was asking my teacher for some oil control tips for airbrush. She told me that skin needed to be prepped before airbrushing, so it was best to mix the Make Up Forever HD Primer and All Matt. I asked the makeup artist manning the counter over at MUFE what she thought of All Matt, and she chuckled, “ah, it’s a lifesaver! It’s saved me tons of jobs outside.” Without thinking, I went home with a bottle of All Matt.

Coming Soon : Project Beauty 2009

It’s the ber months now, and I’m very, very excited.

Last year’s Project Beauty was a blast, with all the lovely ladies who were so game in learning how to look their best! My tandem with Miss Abubots was a fun experience, and this year, it’s not just the two of us. We’re going to be four who will be teaching!

Stay tuned for the finalized plans!
