lovely Phuket. photo by Adrian Teng

Hello my lovelies! I just got home from my first beach trip this year – Phuket, Thailand! I tell you, summer’s just about the best season of the year, as the endless sunshine fills my heart with so much happiness! But of course, one must stay beautiful and fresh all throughout – and here are my beach must-haves this year!

1. Sunblock
But.of.course. Skin cancer, anyone? Besides tan-phobia ( fear of having darker skin because of the sun ) or not, protecting your skin from the sun is just a must. Key products that I love? Avene Spray-on Sunblock ( that feels like nothing at all ), Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Sunblock ( that feels oh, so light ), and Colorescience Sunforgettable Brush SPF 30 ( that is excellent for acne prone skin, to be applied on the face. )

2. Tanning Oil
Sue me. I’m one of the fair-skinned ( well, light to medium, at least ) who want tanned skin. I find tanned skin ultra sexy, and just the color of the season. I can be stark fair when it turns cold, but I’d love to match the heat with a sexy color on my skin. Aside from my trusty Nivea Sun Oil, I’ve also found a very good tanning buddy with Banana Boat Deep Tanning Oil. I prefer tanning oils than tanning lotions because the glow is really golden and shiny. But of course, the usual SPFs of tanning oils have low SPF to start with, so it’s best to apply your trusty sunblock ( say, at least SPF 45? ) before applying these. Reapply as it dries to amplify the sheer, but glorious tan!

3. Aloe Vera Gel
I think my friend, who was with me in Phuket, absolutely hates me now because I have totally forgotten how bad her sunburn was, and I just kept on slapping her back because of our crazy antics! Hahaha! I was actually quite surprised that my skin did not burn at all. Maybe I’m abnormal. But still, aloe vera gel proved to be very useful during the trip. We got a tube from one mall in Phuket , and everyone felt temporary relief using it. There are alot of cooling aloe vera gels out there, just be sure to pack one for your beach trip, for that emergency situation when your skin hurts!

I just love, love summer. I see my skin now, tanned, and it just feels like a new me. I urge adventurous beauties out there to be a bit experimental and try looking at themselves with a deeper color. Anyway, all for the fun of summer!

Does anyone want one of these?

Speaking of summer, I’m so happy to hold a contest in Beautynomics.com , and this is exclusive to my Philippine readers- I am giving away one Flip-Float courtesy of Havaianas – just tell us, what can you do with the slipper raft, and what is your favorite beach beauty must-have?

I’ll be holding this contest for two weeks, until May 20, 2009. Just leave your comments below.

I’m waiting! Hahaha!

Wow!! Looks like you had a great time Sophie!

Aside from its general purpose, since i cant swim well to save my life, i would use it as an accessory/conversation starter. Looks super astig on the beach! I bet people wont mind using it and looking like they can’t swim, and i bet lots of people will ask me (if i win) where did i get it. LOL! Cool!

My beach must have is sunblock for face and body atleast spf 30. I will be very happy with spf50 =)

My favorite beach beauty must-have is definitely sunblock, I use separate sunblock for my face & body, at least SPF30 for my body & SPF50 for my face. I’m loving Banana Hut’s Sport Performance SPF50 Ultra Clear Mist Spray for my body (a bit oily but I’m not complaining) & Neutrogena’s Ultra Sheer Dry-Touch SPF50 for my face.

I really really want that flip float, ever since I saw it displayed at the Belle De Jour Rendezvous, sadly my friend & I didn’t get it, but thanks to you, I still have a chance! Yipee! I can already see myself taking it to the beach/pool (everywhere there’s water HAHA because it’s the COOOOLEST Salbabida EVER!!)camwhoring with it, sharing the flip-float with the rest of our barkada ? & how effortless it will be for us to just lounge on it. We especially love the straps, we could hold it so that we won’t fall and it also serves as a pillow, how perfect is that!! I can also use it as an extra bed/sofa when my friends hang out to watch korean variety shows and tv series <3 yey!!
