During normal days, the normal majority ( yes, that’s me, included ! and maybe you! ) uses mass marketed hair care products that are found in groceries, drugstores, and your department store beauty section. One can’t help it – mass marketed brands are practical because of their price, and their quality aren’t bad actually, because of the highly competitive marketplace. Take a look at how Pantene and Sunsilk are competing with each other by improving formulation and adding beneficial ingredients at such a fast speed that the consumer themselves cannot keep track!

But once in a while, we seek something out of our daily routine, maybe something more luxurious.

Take for example, the hair story of my mom. Her hair is subject of every family member’s envy, specially her kids ( with us all girls ) because her hair texture is very fine, and her hair’s glossy black against our coarse, poofy hair, that whenever we have our hair rebonded, when we see our mom’s hair, we just go green with envy that she never had to undergo that stuff. Going back, she can use any shampoo, and prefers local shampoo as she finds imported shampoo too strong for her taste, that it gives her fine hair some hairfall.

Given that, it was a surprise that one day, she asked me for a “nice shampoo” that can make her hair shine more, and give it a softer feel. With that thought, I got her a nice Elseve Nutri Gloss Shampoo and Conditioner to try. After a few days, I was asking her why she was such in a good mood, and she told me she was because she felt her hair was becoming softer, smoother, and it smelled great! She loved Elseve Nutri Gloss as much as my other sisters and I did, loving its long lasting pleasant fragrance and the nice texture it gave our hair.

Now, I know it’s a debatable and sensitive topic comparing mass consumer products versus more specialty hair care, that are more expensive. Some might say that mass consumer hair care work as good as its more upscale version , I can actually agree at some point, but from my experience, there are indeed luxury hair care brands that deliver fantastic results that can not compare with its mass consumer counterpart. Take for example, Kerastase Oleo Relax Masque. It costs about more than $20 a pot for a conditioner. In my heart, I know that it is worth every penny because the moment I wash my hair from a 5 minute leave-on of this product, my hair feels like silk, almost surreal. I would be glad to pay for this product. But then, during normal days, I’m just fine using my reliable Sunsilk or Pantene shampoo because they’re trusted brands that I can leave my hair with for everyday use, given the good price, as well as good performance. For more miracles, and extra tender lovin`, that’s where Elseve and Kerastase come in. Those luxuries are deserved every once in a while, I believe!

Well, what’s your hair story?
