I just love, love summer. Aside from the gorgeous tan that I’d be able to sport, I get to frolic, go out of town and get away from the city! Last weekend was a blast as my bestbuds from college and I went on a roadtrip. With our first top to Tagaytay, as we grabbed lunch at Buon Giorno, we decided to go to Ilog Maria Honeybee Farm as it was just near the place. Twas also an excellent opportunity for me to check out the place that I’ve bought products from via their online store last year.

Ilog Maria Honeybee Farm is located in Silang, Cavite that produces natural and organic products ( yes, no SLS, parabens, and chemicals whatsoever ) ranging from, soaps, body wash, facial scrub, feminine wash, lip balms, to even wood polish! Anything that can be made from the by-products of bees, using the most natural method, for they believe that products are more effective when made using natural methods and not processed at all. They believe that the benefits that keeping honey pure, and unprocessed lets it retain is “healing and nutritive properties.”

Virgin honey, is of course, their number one product!

Here’s a tour of the Ilog Maria Honeybee Farm for those who haven’t visited the place yet, have been buying online, or just want to know more about it!

It starts with a 700 meter access road, til we reached the parking, and walked some more to the vicinity.

Store hours : They’re open from Tuesdays to Saturdays, 8:30 am to 5 pm, and are closed on Sundays.

We went out of the store and looked for bee action. Bee action starts here.

White boxes in the fields. I think they’re nurturing colonies of bees there.

Joel Magsaysay, owner of Ilog Maria Bee Farm, talks about his love for bees and keeping things simple.
A memorable quote was, “When they ask me why I take care of bees? Because I can get honey whenever I want them.”

Joel let us use our fingers to get fresh, fresh honey from the honeycombs. The taste of fresh, fresh honey is so exhilaratingly sweet that has an unexplainable pleasant aroma in the mouth as you taste it. The aroma I tasted was somewhat floral. I think it depends on which the bees feed on.

Joel Magsaysay shows us this solar contraption that harvests their beeswax. See? No artificial processing.

Now, I know you’ve been waiting to see what the Ilog Maria store actually looks like. When we went there, there were actually a mix of foreigners and people from Manila who were filling their baskets with products. Thanks to Violane Magsaysay for letting me take pictures of their store!

Checking out the store,

An endless array of soaps. Wide variety, I tell ya! These are the small sized soaps. Maybe enough to last you two weeks.

Bigger sized soaps. Also helps that there are descriptions accompanying the variants for whatever the purpose the soaps might be for!

The delectable lipbalms

Honeymilk lotion and Sublime Massage Oil ( did I just read Sonya’s )

Aromatherapy oils to soothe the senses

Candles

Me, dizzy with delight with all the bath products surrounding me. I could stay here for hours!

I asked Violane which their bestsellers were. She just smiled at me and told me to observe what the customers were getting. I stepped back and watch people shop. Someone hoarded Virgin Honey. Violane told me most customers get their famed Throat Spray, Honey Facial Soap, and Feminine Wash. So there, guess who went shopping?

My friends getting all giddy and curious about the products had their loot. I asked them both to get the Lip Balm because it is the ultimate must – have. Great-smelling, minty-feeling lipbalm that’s only 65 pesos? Quite a steal, that’s for sure!

Well, together’ our basket was all filled up!

We failed to book in advance, so here’s an advice for those who want to make the most out of their visit to Ilog Maria : book a Bee Museum tour ahead of time ! It’d be fun!

I’ve bought some soaps and other products, and to my delight, I’ve started using them already. I’d be posting reviews of Ilog Maria products soon! This is why I love beauty blogging – I just love roadtesting products!

To sum up, aside from being a beauty addict’s haven, going to Ilog Maria Honeybee Farm has been an inspiring journey for me as Joel shared to us how happy it is to live a life of simplicity, nurturing bees, being close to nature, and helping people. :)

So if you want some fresh air, and just get away from the sounds of the city, I suggest taking a break, go to Tagaytay for some fantastic weather, and make a stop to Ilog Maria Honeybee Farm for some nature lovin`. :)

I’ve first read about Ilog Maria on Lucy Torres’ article on the Philippine Star a few years back. I’m hoping to visit this place one of these days. Their products are nice gift ideas for any occasion.
