School’s just around the corner, and with my sister who’s in college who sadly proclaimed that her break was over, I was given the chance to give her tips and advice for keeping herself primp and prettified even when she’s in the vicious jungle called school. Yes, my sisters see me as their personal assistant and stylist extraordinaire, and I can’t believe I’m doing this for free! ( Hahaha kidding! I mean, they benefit the most from this! ) Anyway, here are some must-haves and some advice that I gave her to keep her looking fresh, and incredibly ready for school!
Makeup for School
Makeup for school is okay - you would always want to look your best no matter what. But always remember that your makeup should be toned down, and if possible, not noticeable. You wouldn’t want to look as if you’re going to the party, or worse, the runway ( lemme just say that the makeup done in Projec Runway is fab but na-ah , it doesn’t fit in the campus scene! ) Makeup should be really simple.
For the really simple ladies, a sweep of loose powder to further refine their complexions and control oil would be okay. For those who are in need of coverage, they must use a retractable brush, or any brush that matter, to use their pressed powder foundation for coverage, paired with their stick concealer for problem areas. Loose powder is good to bring around with you just in case one needs to touch up. Oil blotting papers should be swiped on oily areas prior to retouching - imagine when oil, dirt, and a new layer of loose powder is mixed - eeyikes, I feel zits forming.
One important thing that I must address, is my concern for students who burn the midnight oil, being all studious, diligent, and persevering to get good grades. With their good intentions, I’m pretty sure they have a tradeoff for their actions. They do, they do, and it shows! Look at their …gasp…undereyes!!! Dark undereyes give out the look of stress tiredness, and worse, add years to your age! That must be given a remedy! Eye creams every night, and applying yellow color corrector , or concealer sheerly on the undereye area would really help hide away the look of dread on someone’s face, and bring out the brightness of ones’ youth.
For cheek makeup, I think that it is a must as well because if you apply just foundation, your face just looks..flat. A wash of color would give your face some life, and the challenge is applying it as if the color comes from your cheeks, and not look as if warpaint is on your face! Here’s the trick - first, use a good, loose blush brush which brush head just fits the apple of your cheeks, and apply blush in a circular motion on the apple of your cheeks and blend towards the hairline, diagonally. This is for powder blush application, which is the trickiest to apply!
Another must have that I want to suggest, is a facial mist. This is a multi-purpose thing that is always a joy around. When you feel that your hair’s icky and smelly ( maybe from the caf ? ), you spray on your hair. When your face feels sticky and really dirty, you spray on your face , and you wipe your makeup off with tissue. Another use for the facial mist is that, right after you apply makeup, you spray on your face, to tone down every trace of cakiness, or the look that you get from applying powder. Trust me, it works! Evian facial mist is a good inside-your-bag staple!
For lippies, one most staple thing that one must have in her bag is the ever reliable lipbalm. Chapped lips are an absolute no-no, and luscious, naturally red lips make a statement more than you’ll ever know! Tinted lipglosses are also great to give some red tint to the lips, and some minority use lipsticks, the liquid finish-like, moisturizing ones. Just don’t apply too thickly.
Overall, back to school makeup is just plain simple - you have to look naturally fresh, and not look that you’ve been trying to hard to impress. Makeup should look natural and simple, even if your routine isn’t simple - no one would ever know your routine, but would always judge you for your finished product - your face.
Next, I’ll be talking about Hair for School! Watch out!
