I’ve been under the weather lately because of the stress brought about by the peak seasonal demand called Christmas. Calendars, souvenir programmes, and more prints are demanded, and who am I to refuse such great demand, that makes me eat at least thrice a day ? Hehe , but still, I got sick. One day, I woke up with a really bad feeling in my throat, and got alarmed. This can’t be real. The moment I catch a cold, it automatically becomes asthma because of my inherent medical condition. The first thing I reached for was a lemon, and it wasn’t in the fridge. I panicked, and went to the supermarket. Not there. The next day, my condition worsened, and I begged someone to buy some lemons for me. Good thing that there were some in the nearby market, and I squeezed them and drank the pure juice of lemon. God, that was really sour. The next day? My colds were gone – lemon melted them down the drain. Oh, I love lemon. It absolutely saved my life.
Lemon is one of the best fruits in the planet for me, and for making me feel better, I shall proclaim its benefits.
1. Health Benefits :
1. Lemons are diuretic.
diuretic : increasing the volume of the urine excreted, as by a medicinal substance. (Dictionary.com)
There is such a thing as a lemon detox wherein you lose weight by undergoing this cleansing diet. The lemon detox diet consists of drinking pure lemon juice ( yes, in its pure sourness ! ), ground cayenne pepper or ginger, and Madal Bal Natural Tree Syrup. Whenever you feel hungry, just whip up the drink , and you’ll be set for the day. This diet paves the way for healthier skin, hair and nails. Your immune system will definitely benefit from this.
2. Lemons can combat cough and cold
Yes, this is tried and tested by moi! Just squeeze a whole lemon and drink it sans the sugar and water, and you’ll be fine right away!
3. Lemon for the body
Lemon is also good for the body – and drinking lemon juice regularly would help you release toxins from your body, keep your body less prone to illnesses, and make you feel refreshed due to its antiviral and antibacterial properties. It would also make you look glowing from within, thanks to the rich Vitamin C it has! Lemon has also been proven to be helpful in the processes of digestion, elimination (bowel) liver and kidney functions. Say byebye to heartburn, diarrhea, kidney and gallstones!
Okay, for the vain and the beautiful, lemons can also help us in that department!
Lemon and Beauty
1. Lemon for the hair
A friend of mine once told me that after shampooing, she rinses her hair with lemon mixed with water, and her hair comes out way shinier and softer, considering that she has damaged hair to begin with. This is also great for treating dandruff.
2. Lemon for the face
Lemons can also be applied on the face ( the juice, for that matter ). They canhelp prevent sunburns, and even reduce wrinkles and cure your blemishes. Just apply on problem areas!
And when applied to the skin, lemons can also help prevent sunburns! Lemons are a great addition to skincare products because they can help reduce wrinkles and treat blemishes. They reduce wrinkles by speeding up skin renewal and uncovering fresh layers of skin. It is supposed to be even more beneficial if you follow up washing with a lemon skincare product by using olive oil on the skin. Lemon extracts in beauty products, especially facial cleansing products, make for great exfoliants and cleansers and benefit skin with Alpha Hydroxy Acids and Vitamin C, not to mention they smell so yummy!
Okay, just a word of caution though – do not apply pure lemon juice on your face! It would be disastrous! Dilute lemon in water, and use it as your moisture mist. That way, your face would be germ-free and less prone to blemishes because of the anti-bacterial properties of lemon!
Another thing – lemons are good antiseptics – alot of people love cleansing their wounds with this. ( Oh drat, is this more ouchy than alcohol? Haha! )
Gosh, with all my research done, it made me stock up more lemons in the house! So, don’t forget to have lemons in your fridge – to stay beautiful, and healthy!
