From my previous entries I told everyone that I’m not really willing to buy expensive mascaras because I don’t really wear mascara everyday – it’s more on every weekends, and the shelf life of mascaras are only six months, which would mean, I’d be wasting alot of money. ( This is a relative opinion, it’s just moi! )
In all honesty, if given all the unlimited resources including money, I would definitely run to the mall and buy myself Shu Uemura and Lancome mascaras, for they are famed to have really good mascaras that promise volume and thickness in the lash area.
Well, I was given a chance to try the Lancome L’Extreme Mascara as my bestfriend and I were strolling at Rustans’ to check out and shop for cosmetics. A pretty saleslady came up to me and offered me to pick between a Lancome skin refiner ( can’t remember the product name ) or a L’Extreme mascara product sample. I immediately told her I wanted the mascara because I was so curious to try it, while my best friend opted for the skin care. Lancome Fatale isn’t here yet, so this is so far the most current mascara of Lancome.
I remember watching a TV show earlier, it was Rated Oh, wherein Sam Oh interviewed Zerline Chan, Product Manager for Lancome here ( I remember seeing her during my internship at L’Oreal, she was this fair-skinned kind looking lady ). She endorsed Lancome L’Extreme Mascara as an extraordinary mascara that would make your lashes achieve a false lash effect – I’m sure it didn’t mean for the lashes to look fake, but rather make it so amazingly thick and long that it was almost surreal! Haha! Okay, so here we go with the review!
I was given a small tube of L’Extreme sample. The moment I opened it, I was indifferent on how the mascara wand looked. It looked like the normal mascara brush that I got over with the moment Max Factor Masterpiece swept me away with its plastic brushlike bristles. I must say, I was just so spoiled with that new technology. Anyway, to give it a chance, I applied it on a Sunday when I’d roadtest cosmetics while shopping for groceries at the nearby mall ( that no one would see me just in case the results got horrible ). I was a little bit afraid that the formula given to me wasn’t waterproof ( definitely, they wouldn’t give out waterproof samples! Haha! ), because I’ve had a history of really bad pandabear look on my eye area when I’d wear non-waterproof mascaras (meaning they’d smudge so bad they’d smear my undereyes Hahaha I was once the living dead! ). Anyway, I braved the wild, and applied the mascara to my lashes.
Gosh, you know what just happened ? My eyelashes REALLY looked thicker, and a whole lot longer! I was dumbstruck with the effect it had on my eyes. I had a wide-eyed look, and I loved it! I could almost swear that my lashes looked really pretty! Wheee!!! No clumps! Application was just okay, I wouldn’t say it was difficult, but my inner lashes were pretty hard to reach because they were pretty short! Haha!
The great thing was, after 5 hours of malling, and running after my baby sister at the mall ( since she loves running around? kids! ), I went home, checked my face at the mirror for results, and I was more than surprised to see my lashes still looking all pretty thick and long, but no smudges, and pandabear undereyes! That’s definitely alot for someone who has oily skin like me!
So, did this experience totally change my views about expensive mascaras? Maybe. I might purchase Lancome mascaras on a later date, maybe give it a year or so, when I’d love to use mascaras everyday. I would definitely wait for the Fatale mascara because it has a better and more modern kind of appliacator than the L’Extreme, but L’Extreme is a really really good mascara to use if you’re the kind of person who applies mascara everyday! I’d grab one now if my workspace was different ( being in the printing industry, less makeup is more, because everything I wear on my face melts! Haha! )

To avoid the “pandabear eyes” effect, don’t apply mascara to your lower lashes (you can use a clear one instead, or extra liner).
I also am not in the habit of using mascara every day (if I do, I’ll use Neutrogena’s feather lash mascara, as it amplifies my lashes but still looks like I’m not wearing anything– most mascara looks more obvious on me) so I have a hard time spending lots of money on something I’ll use a few times over a 3-6 month period. But I love that moment of surprise when I first try a new, fancy mascara and remember what it can do for my lashes. ; )
I love DiorShow Mascara…but I use it everyday – so I can justify spending big $$ on it.
hi! do you have “asian” (i.e., short) lashes? if so, i should really try this. my friend, a makeup artist of lancome, said that this is a really really good mascara (not saying that just because she is one of their MUAs but it’s really true). glad to hear this feedback. maybe i’ll actually get one!!
oh, and did you curl before you applied mascara?
Ey!
Hmm…my lashes aren’t actually short, but aren’t long either. ( Lol! ) go get a sample! It would be better
I usually curl my lashes before applying mascara
TC!
