If you’re living in the Philippines, and you want to have a haircut, better make it quick. Within the week, perhaps? Because this is your chance to save the environment! Sounds weird? This has pure logic, I promise.
Apparently, there is a nasty oil spill at the waters of the Guimaras Island. Oil spills are really nasty because they kill the marine ecosystem. It’s sad to see fishes die, and water getting dirty. It’s such a shame, too, since Guimaras is a wonderful island full of breathtaking tourist and surfing spots. Here are some shots of the beautiful Guimaras Island :

It has been proven that hair could pick up or soak up oil, and is an effective oil spill cleaner. Originally thought of in 1989 by Philip McCrocy, a hairdresser from Alabama, here is his experience,
“After seeing the oily otters on CNN, he brought a bag of hair home the next day. He stuffed an old pair of his wife Sherry’s nylons with five pounds of hair, then tied the ankles together to make a ring. After he filled his son’s plastic pool with water, he dumped in a gallon of used motor oil. He dunked the ring of hairy panty hose. “In two minutes, the water was crystal clear,” he said recently over the phone from his salon.” - Alaska Science Forum
Thus, the Marine Coast Guard had been asking salons to donate all the “excess hair” they have accumulated on their floors from all the haircuts they’ve serviced for the day. After all, they all go to the trashcan, so it won’t affect them in anyway, and they’d get to help in the preservation of the environment, as well!
Now, it’s only now that I’ve realized that haircuts can help the environment. My darling vains to the rescue! Schedule your haircuts in advance!!! As for me, I’m scheduling my monthly trim early this week, then!
Tata for now!

how will you know if your salon donates hair to an environmental group?
Good morning Jill! You’re up early !
Well, according to the news, the Marine Coast Guard has been asking for “donations”, but they encourage salons to bring their sackfuls of hair to the Marine Coast Guard place itself. So…that was like a public service announcement last night.Just for the oilspill.
I never thought that this is possible. Thanks for the info.
