If she is the vain lawyer, then I might as well be the vain economist! Being vain and awfully girly does not have to equate to being dumb. Look at Elle Woods. She might sigh at the sight of a salon, but she got in Harvard, and actually delivered the speech for her graduating batch! She is the myth-buster that vain girls are dumb.
Love for products, love for beauty, is simply love for life. Not to shallow as you suppose, but there happens to be some substance behind it like law concepts and economic theories.

I think I was exactly like that during my college days. I graduated with the fulfilling thought that the vain can achieve, too. Too bad I didn’t pursue this as a thesis topic , though!
…but I spent my college life giving beauty tips and product recommendations! Hahaha!
